An updated Everlane review

everlane review

I’ve been slowly filling the rails (and shelves) of my wardrobe with Everlane – a brand which resonates which me on both an aesthetic and moral level. By nature, I’m a creature of habit; when I find something I like, I tend to stick with it. So today I wanted to share an updated Everlane review; it’s been a good two and a half years since my first order, and I’ve got a fair few more thoughts to share on the sizing, and in particular the wear and tear, of what has literally become the backbone of my wardrobe.

When you scratch the surface, it’s kinda hard not to like Everlane. They’re basics driven, utterly and completely transparent (their Snapchat is definitely worth tuning into), and the quality is almost always on point. It’s this simple combination that has had me going back again and again, to scoop up a new launch, or a repeat of an old favourite. So get ready, ‘cos this is going to be a long one.

TOPS

EVERLANE PIMA STRETCH TANK
I’d been on the hunt for a fitted scoop neck tank that I could wear with billowy skirts, and this looked like it would fit the bill. I went for the XS (Everlane does typically run a little large, for the most part) but unfortunately this is still a lot larger than what I was after! The fabric is slightly sheer so if I picked this up again, I’d probably go for black to be on the safe side. The XS measures 39cm underarm to underarm and is 65cm long.

EVERLANE RYAN MUSCLE TEE
My first foray into Everlane’s t-shirt range included one of their Ryan Muscle Tees (along with a couple of Ryan Tanks) in the white. Unfortunately, the quality of this didn’t quite stand up; after the first wash I got a small hole in the front of the top, and I’ve since found one at the back of the collar. This is quite sheer, an oversized boxy fit, and perhaps a style that’s better for those with broader shoulders as this covers the front of mine, just slightly. I grabbed this in a S, and it measures 52cm across the underarm and is 66cm long.

EVERLANE STRIPED HEAVYWEIGHT TEE
I’m a huge fan of the stripe and this long sleeved mariniere is no exception. It’s a nice thick cotton, and feels reminiscent of Petit Bateau’s mariniere, at a slightly lower price point. The fit is quite boxy through the body, with small slits at the hem and fitted sleeves. Size down with this one – I grabbed the XS and it measures 48cm underarm to underarm and is 61cm long.

EVERLANE COTTON BOX-CUT TEE
I generally tend to steer clear of Everlane tees; mostly because I think that there are better options out there which deliver value for money, and are long lasting. In my experience, the seams tend to twist, and the fabric pills up quite quickly. That being said, I do like the design of this tee. It has a slightly shrunken boxy-style fit, which I think works particularly well if you’re partial to a high-waisted skinny (or straight!) leg jean and tee combo like I am. I opted for the black and white stripe which is a lovely micro-print.

EVERLANE SLEEVELESS SILK TANK
An absolute staple for me, Everlane’s sleeveless silk tanks are one of the few pieces which I always made a point of including in my capsule wardrobes. These have a scoop neck, loose flowy fit and the hemline is asymmetrical – it’s shorter in the front and longer in the back, a style I find to be universally flattering. Their silk is incredible quality, and can withstand a round in the washing machine (and apparently the dryer too – but I’d avoid making this mistake, if you can!); I have a few of these and they still look incredible after a couple years of wear. I nabbed them in the size S and while they are a loose fit, these don’t look big on if you pick them up in your usual size. The small measures 44.5cm underarm to underarm, is 58cm long in the front and 74cm long in the back.

EVERLANE JAPANESE GOWEAVE HIGH NECK TANK
This was a top that I was really excited about, as the cut and shape looked stunning on the model on the site. Unfortunately I found that this fell a little flat in real life. The fabric is quite stiff so doesn’t have a lot of movement, which meant that when tucked into skirts and trousers, it could look a little boxy. I sized down and went for a US2, which was the perfect slightly loose fit.

EVERLANE POLKA DOT CAMI
Living in Sydney, camisoles are generally a saviour for me come summertime, when it gets too hot to realistically wear much else than that and something lightweight on bottom. One of my favourite recent additions from the brand is their Polka dot square cami. It’s cut square across the chest with spaghetti thin straps, with a boxy silhouette. The cami does have a double layered (large) hem at the bottom, which can make tucking difficult if you’re not pairing it with something high-waisted, though it also looks nice worn loose too. I have this in both the white with black spot, and the navy with white spot, and bot are major winners from me. These have a much heavier weight to them than Everlane’s silk cami’s, being made from Cupro (which is a recycled polyester). If you don’t want to wear a strapless bra with this one, I highly recommend these as an alternative.

EVERLANE JAPANESE GOWEAVE CAMI
I’ve had mixed feelings about Everlane’s GoWeave for a while now, but that all changed after I tried the wrap mini dress (which I love, by the way!). I have this in the rose, and it’s the prettiest pale pink hue, perfect for pairing with neutrals like white or beige. This is a heavier weight than the polka dot cami, being made of a technical (man-made) fabric called GoWeave, and admittedly it doesn’t drape well and is best worn loose rather than tucked in. I went for my usual size, which is a 2, and this fit perfectly across the chest. A little bit of room but not too tight.

EVERLANE CLEAN SILK CAMISOLE
Everlane recently re-launched their entire silk collection, after partnering with silk producer Bombyx, to reduce the use of chemicals present in traditional manufacturing of silk fabrics. Additionally, the silk is produced in a LEED-certified factory, which means that they have proven to have reduced energy consumption in the production process. I love this commitment to reducing their environment footprint – it really resonates with me – so it’s pretty safe to say I’m massively behind this initiative. Camisoles are a major staple for me, and I was pretty excited to not only try this new silk, but also this new cut, which has a different design to the original style which was launched about 4 years ago. I have this in the white/grey and otped for a size 2, which seems to be my usual size in Everlane tops (for reference I’m in between an AU6-8). It fits really well, and being double lined, it’s not sheer either. The cut is really flattering, and I love how this pairs with everything in my wardrobe – it’s a go-to piece for me, for sure.

EVERLANE BOXY SQUARE SILK BLOUSE
Arguably one of the more ‘fashion-forward’ styles that Everlane offers, this blouse is nothing short of beautiful. The silk is supple yet sturdy, and the shape of the blouse incredibly endearing – a boxy fit through the body with dropped shoulders and a block silk panel across the bottom of the shirt. I picked this up in the pink, and unfortunately I found that it was quite sheer through the body which makes finding something to layer underneath quite difficult, unless you have a pretty lace bra that you don’t mind having on show. This also comes in a cotton poplin which I suspect would be a little stiffer but just as nice, alternatively you could just play it safe and grab the black or the navy. Pick this up in your usual size – it’s a narrower fit through the outer shoulder. Measurements are 63cm underarm to underarm and 60cm long.

EVERLANE RELAXED POPLIN SHIRT
I’d been on the hunt for a simple cotton poplin shirt which was lightweight, but that also had a bit of structure, and this ticked all those boxes. As with numerous other items from Everlane, I found that this does fit on the larger side of the spectrum. I went down a size for the US2, and this was still pretty oversized and loose fitting on me – I think had I gone any larger, it would’ve swamped my frame. A really great pick if you’re after an easy, well constructed shirt for day to day in the office, or for weekend wear. It’s easy to care for, and I think bar the vanity sizing, it’s a really lovely cut.

EVERLANE LINEN COLLARLESS SHIRT
Living in Sydney, linen has long been one of those fabrics which I’ve tried to heavily incorporate into my wardrobe. It’s a natural fibre so it’s breathable (perfect for the Sydney heat), and I love the lived in look that linen gets with wear – the creases don’t bother me at all! I managed to snap up the linen collarless shirt in two colours: white and the pink/white stripe. Personally, I tend to favour a collarless style shirt, as I find they’re a little more flattering across the shoulders on me, so this was a real winner. The shirt is incredibly oversized – I’ve got them in a size US2, however I probably could have sized down to a US0, and they’re very roomy under the arms. The fit is quite boxy through the body, which I find looks great tucked into a pair of high waisted jeans or a leather skirt. Due to the dropped shoulders, the shirt does have a tendency to slip back, pulling the neckline up across your collar bone, so it can be a little fussy to wear, at times. This is currently in the choose what you pay section so you can score a great deal on this shirt!

EVERLANE RELAXED SILK SHIRT
My first purchase from Everlane many years ago was driven by my curiosity about their silk shirts, and they’ve come a long way since. Their latest, and arguably most classic take on the silk blouse is their relaxed silk shirt. I’ve got this in the burgundy/white stripe, which is a lovely take on the style for the autumn and winter months. These feel a lot more luxurious than the price tag would suggest, and are seriously on par with Equipment’s silk blouses. The shirts are fabricated in a beautiful and lush washed silk, which you can pop in the washing machine; just make sure it’s in a delicates bag and in a cold hand wash setting. These do fit oversized – I picked this one up in a US2, which is quite loose on me. You can see it in action in this video HERE.

EVERLANE COTTON SHORT-SLEEVE POPOVER SHIRT
I’m not shy about admitting that I’m a creature of habit, and I seem to have a knack for adding things to my wardrobe which are largely similar to items I already own. This popover shirt is a pretty good alternative to the Madewell courier shirt (which I own and love), in a stiffer fabric. Truth be told, I tend to prefer a soft cotton over a cotton poplin, which is largely down to the hand-feel of the fabric. Overall, this is a nice style, and I like that you can fold up the sleeves to create a different look. It’s worth noting that this is incredibly boxy, so this isn’t going to be a style that ‘traditionally’ works for every body shape (but honestly, you do you!). I got the US2 but given the oversized nature of the top, I think you could go down one size from what you usually take in the brand.

EVERLANE POLKA DOT OVERSIZED SHIRT
I really do have a thing for polka dots, and this looked like a great option to add into my wardrobe. The tunic style length is perfect for pairing with leggings (it covers up the bum and crotch), and it’s a really floaty, boxy style, which feels a little reminiscent of a painter’s smock. Being made of cupro, the fabric feels substantial but it has a lot of movement and flow, and despite being white, I didn’t find it to be sheer at all. I grabbed this in my usual size and while it is a ‘big’ fit, it’s designed to be worn loose. You could go down a size from your usual if you wanted something that fit a little closer to the body. One of the best things about this is that it washes really well and is easy to care for, but looks a little like a silk shirt.

KNITS & SWEATERS

EVERLANE CROPPED CASHMERE SWEATER
You really can’t go wrong with Everlane’s cashmere. Their cropped cashmere sweater has fitted sleeves and a boxy fit through the body with a rounded hemline (slightly longer in the back) which is best worn loose over anything high waisted. I actually haven’t had an opportunity to wear it yet (I thought it’d look good tucked in to things but tucking doesn’t really work with this style) so jury’s still out on this one. I sized down and am glad I did as this does run on the larger end of the scale. The XS measures 51cm underarm to underarm and is 55cm long.

EVERLANE CASHMERE SWEATER
I couldn’t do an Everlane review and not mention their cashmere sweater. It’s hands down the best purchase I’ve made from Everlane so far. The quality is unparalleled for the price. The cashmere feels incredibly soft to the touch (invest in this over UNIQLO’s cheaper option – you’ll thank me later!), and the wear and tear is negligible – do expect some minor pilling after the first few wears but this can easily be removed by a fabric shaver. Personally, I tend to opt for my usual size but it is a slightly loose fit, so if you want something closer cut to the body, I’d recommend sizing down – so if you’re typically a small, grab the extra-small and so on. The style is a loose fit through the body with slim fitting sleeves; for reference, the size small measures 46cm underarm to underarm and is 63cm long.

EVERLANE CHUNKY KNIT COTTON CREW
This does what it says on the tin. It’s an oversized, chunky knit crew neck sweater in a soft cotton. I found that this fit true to size for that lived in, slouchy look, and looking back, I think I almost wish I’d gone up a size to make it a little snugglier. My only gripe with this is that the hem tapers in at the hip, as a result of the side slits – my hips are my widest point so I find it’s not something I really want to draw attention to, so that’s worth keeping in mind if you’re pear shaped like me.

EVERLANE LIGHTWEIGHT FRENCH TERRY CREW
I’ve become a total convert to the sweatshirt this year, and really like Everlane’s offering for a smart looking, but casual option. I originally received this sweatshirt in the heather grey, and loved the fit so much that I sprung for the bone, too. The crew neckline is cut a little lower, so most crew-neck tees will peek out around the collar, which I think can be a really great look if you wear a contrasting colour underneath. The style is slightly cropped, which I think sets it apart from other sweatshirts out there (though if you want something a little longer, this one from Tradlands is an excellent pick). I will say that the sleeves are quite oversized and almost have a ‘balloon’ like effect to them. Personally, I like to push the sleeves up my arm as I prefer the casual look of it, so this hasn’t really been an issue for me.

EVERLANE COTTON MOCKNECK CROP
This sweater is absolutely perfect for breezy summer evenings, or during that transition to winter (or vice versa). The mockneck detail is really subtle, which is great if you tend to prefer a crewneck sweater, and the fabric is really soft and and malleable. The hemline is quite thick and prominent (this seems to be a trademark for the brand), but tucks into trousers, jeans and skirts well. The silhouette is slouchy and quite boxy in shape, and it fits pretty true to size for a relaxed fit.

EVERLANE COTTON TURTLENECK
If I had to narrow it down to my top five favourites from the brand, I’d hazard a guess that the cotton turtleneck sweater would take out one of the top spots. This is a new style for me from the brand, and it delivers on everything I expect from a sweater. I particularly love the ribbed turtleneck detail, and the loose split hem, which makes for an easily tuck-able style. I’d almost class this as a mockneck, purely because the ‘turtleneck’ doesn’t roll. The cotton is pretty heavyweight too, and while I think you’d definitely need to layer up a little more in the winter – especially if you live in a colder climate – it’s perfect for transitional to mild winter temperatures. This is an oversized style, and I’d suggest sticking to your usual size. I am 5’8″ and I went with the size small, which is a good fit on me, as the fit really balances out with my height. If you’re petite, you may like to consider sizing down.

EVERLANE LUXE WOOL MOCKNECK
What struck me most about this sweater when it arrived was just how sheer it is on; on the model, you can’t really see the same effect. I opted for the navy (however in hindsight, the black probably would’ve been better!), which I wear with a black bra and while you can see my bra through the fabric, I don’t feel it looks obscene (and I’m sure to wear a nice bra!). The fabric is really soft against the skin, and it’s held up against repeated cold cycles in the washing machine, so it’s incredibly easy to care for. Like usual I opted to size down and got an XS. This isn’t skin tight on me but has a nice fit that skims the body.

EVERLANE WOOL-CASHMERE OVERSIZED CABLE TURTLENECK
Winter in Sydney is always short-lived, but I picked up this beautiful oversized turtleneck to reach for as a staple for when the cold weather sets in. This sweater might be a wool-cashmere mix, but it doesn’t have the soft touch of Everlane’s iconic cashmere sweaters. It is however, incredibly thick, and there’s no denying that this is a great contender for a autumn/winter wardrobe. The fit is relatively oversized; I picked this up in the heather grey, in a size small, and I think I went for the right option given the way I plan on wearing it. There’s quite a lot of room through the body, so it’d be pretty easy to pop a few layers on underneath if you needed it. Overall, I’m pretty pleased with this one, just wish it was a little softer to the touch.

JACKETS

EVERLANE DRAPE TRENCH COAT
I’m definitely in the camp that every girl should have a crisp trench coat tucked away in their closet –aside from being extremely practical for those in-between seasons, they finish off an outfit and look incredibly sharp. Everlane’s trench really appealed to me; Burberry-esque in look, it has huge round buttons, a clip to tighten the collar around the neck and did I mention that it’s waterproof? Tried and tested! I love wearing this with the lapels folded over, tied with a bow at the waist. The drape trench coat is an update on their previous trench offering, and I love the fact that this time around, it’s fully lined . This fits extremely large so size down one size. I grabbed the S (my mistake!) and it measures 55cm underarm to underarm and is 90cm long.

EVERLANE DENIM JACKET
There was a lot of hype when Everlane expanded their denim collection earlier this year to include denim shorts, skirts and jackets. Aside from the denim mini (which I l-o-v-e), I was most curious about the denim jacket. I’ve since been fortunate to get to try this, and I have a few opinions. The denim is great; sturdy, with structure, and a nice weight. But I think that the cut is slightly off. I opted to get this in a size S, and I’ve found that it’s incredibly boxy throughout the body, the sleeves seem quite wide, and it generally just seems a bit… big. Given that it looks great on the models, I think it’s really just a sizing issue, and I’m still determined to make it work (it looks good with the sleeves rolled up). I’d say an XS would have been a better fit on me, so if you are looking at snapping this up, size down.

DRESSES

EVERLANE LINEN DOLMAN SLEEVE DRESS
If you’ve read this far, then you’re probably already aware that I’m a fan of Everlane’s linen range, and the linen t-shirt dress seemed like an easy throw on casual piece. This is definitely much more of a beach cover up than something you’d wear to run errands as the fabric is a little on the sheer side. The quality is excellent, thick and sturdy without being scratchy, with a nice loose fit through the body. This one’s a little bit on the shorter side for me so I’m giving this to a very petite girlfriend of mine. I picked this up in the XS though I think given it is a dress, you’re best to stick with your usual size. The XS measures 57cm underarm to underarm and is 86cm long.

TROUSERS, SKIRTS & DENIM

EVERLANE CHEEKY STRAIGHT LEG JEAN (ANKLE)
I was really excited when I saw that Everlane were expanding their denim offering – I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect straight leg jean for a while, and so many other pairs I’ve tried have come up a little short. I’m very pleased with Everlane’s take on the straight leg jean; it is incredibly flattering on the bum, has a slightly cropped cut if you go for the ankle length like I did, and they’re pretty easy to style. These fit true to size; I went for my usual 25. You can read my full review of these jeans HERE.

EVERLANE KICK CROP JEAN
So I made it my mission to try out a few new styles of denim this year, and I figured, the kick flare was worth a try. Admittedly, this style is a little too trendy for my tastes (although they do look great on). I went for my usual size, a 25, and they’re perfect fit. These have a DIY aspect to them – you can cut the hem to length, though I kept mine as is. The raw edged hem is fun, though I can’t help but feel that these might look a little dated 12 months from now. You can read my full review HERE.

EVERLANE MID RISE SKINNY JEAN (ANKLE)
Everlane’s denim launch has probably been their most anticipated launch of the year, kicking off with three key styles in four colour options, with various rise and leg lengths. The mid rise skinny was the one that most appealed to me, so I opted for the ‘stay black’. One thing to note is that each wash of denim has a different level of stretch to them. ‘Stay black’ is a very rigid cotton denim, that doesn’t have much stretch at all. It’s very thick and can seem a little bit restrictive, but I think overall they look incredible on (see above). I got the ankle length which comes up just over my foot, so I prefer to wear these rolled once at the ankle, which I find much more flattering as it accentuates your ankles. I grabbed my usual size (sz 25), which felt very snug at first, but relaxed after about an hour or two of wear. I’ve done a full review on these jeans, which you can read more of HERE.

EVERLANE MODERN BOYFRIEND JEAN
The second pair of jeans from Everlane that I put to the test were their modern boyfriend jean. This time, I opted for the ‘bone’, which is a slightly off-white hue. Unlike ‘stay black’, the ‘bone’ denim is incredibly soft and has a lot of stretch to it. Again, I went for my usual size, a size 25, which is the perfect boyfriend fit, on me. There’s a looseness through the leg, and these are fitted but not tight at the waistband, with some room around the hip and bum area. I don’t love these worn straight, so I’ve rolled them up a couple of times to achieve a more flattering length and look. You can read more about my thoughts on these HERE.

EVERLANE AUTHENTIC STRETCH MID-RISE SKINNY ANKLE JEAN
There’s not much I don’t like from Everlane, but I have to say that I wasn’t particularly blown away by their stretch denim. I was sent a pair in the mid-blue to road test ahead of launch, and actually found them to be less comfortable than the bone and washed black denim (which I have in the Cheeky Straight Leg Jean). It’s not to say that these aren’t comfortable as they generally are, but I think that there’s better options out there for stretch denim that looks like real denim; Dr Denim immediately comes to mind as an affordable alternative which I believe is ethical too. I shared more of my thoughts in this blog post here if you’d like to get a better sense of how these wear. Stick with your usual denim size for these.

EVERLANE GOWEAVE CROPPED TROUSERS
While I no longer work in a corporate office, I do make a point of wearing something that looks smart, and a pair of straight leg or skinny trousers are one of my go-to’s for every day. Everlane launched the GoWeave fabrication a little earlier this year, designed to be wrinkle resistant (don’t go throwing this crumpled into a suitcase as you’re gonna end up with wrinkle problems!) making them a great every day option as well as the perfect pair of work trousers to travel with. I’m not sure if it was just the pair I bought, but these run EXTREMELY large! I went for the size 4 (I’m usually a 25 in jeans) and these were a good two sizes too big. I took some snaps wearing them and actually had to pin them in the back! That being said, these are a beautiful trouser, and definitely one worth taking a second look at.

EVERLANE WIDE LEG CROP PANT
It’s taken me a good six months (if not more) to finally get my hands on a pair of Everlane’s wide leg crop trousers. Like a lot of their new launches, these sold out in days, and had me wondering, was I right to hesitate on snapping up a pair? After a few restocks, I was finally able to snag myself a pair, and I have a few thoughts I wanted to share about these. Like everything else from the brand, these run extremely large. I’m typically a waist size 25 in most denim brands, and I decided to pick these up in the size 0, which thankfully, fit like a dream the first time I tried them on. These are a high-waisted fit, and if you carry a lot of your height in your torso like I do, then you might find that these are quite long. For reference, I’m 5’8″ and these fall to about an inch above my ankle. The ‘bone’ colour does have a slight sheerness to the fabric, so just note that you will need to wear them with nude undergarments! The website describes these as being ‘garment-dyed’, which is what gives them that very soft, worn in feel – be warned though, it does stretch. After wearing them in for a couple hours, I noticed that the waistband had given a bit, though if anything it just makes them a lot more comfortable to wear. Perhaps my favourite thing about the trousers though? They make your booty pop!

EVERLANE WORK PANT
For the most part, I like my workwear to do double duty, but I’m always on the lookout for good office essentials, that will last me years. Safe to say, I was curious about the work pant, and really wanted to give these a go – especially given that these have a side zip closure, which reminded me a little of my martie pants from J.Crew. As with all Everlane launches, these run large – I have them in a size US2, and you can see them in action in THIS video. Despite these not having a classic button fly closure in the front, I was surprised at how flattering these are on. The fabric is quite thick and sturdy, and the waistband seems to just ‘suck you in’. The only thing I find awkward is the length; on me, these are just a little bit too long, so I’ll need to get them taken up to a couple inches above my ankle, which I find looks best on my figure.

BAGS & ACCESSORIES

EVERLANE DAY MARKET TOTE
I’d been dying to get my hands on one of Everlane’s market totes since they were launched – a classic leather tote is one of my biggest wardrobe essentials, as I tend to wear it five days out of seven. I opted for the light taupe, which is a beautiful blush-hued beige, in the day market style – this is the horizontal tote that they offer. I will say, this bag is incredibly oversized; at 5’8” the style seems pretty balanced against my frame, however I suspect if you were on the petite side of the spectrum, this could look a little cartoonish (the magazine tote would probably be a better option). That being said, the bag is very room, and I like that it has quite a bit of structure to it. There’s one internal pocket, and the lining is raw leather. I have found that the pocket can sag a little, especially if you put heavier items in there like keys and your wallet, like I have. The leather has softened up a bit, but it still has a structure to it, and on the exterior, while I haven’t had a single issue with colour transfer (yay!), I have noticed that some of the leather paint has chipped off in spots where I’ve knocked the bag against our iron fence at home. Given I haven’t babied this bag at all, it’s holding up incredibly well. The only downside? It doesn’t have any kind of closure – it’s just an open bag. Personally, I don’t have an issue with this, but it might be a deal breaker for you if you do.

EVERLANE FORM BAG
Where form meets function; that was the tagline for Everlane’s Form Bag, and after using it solidly for over a month now, I’m inclined to agree. I was surprised to find that this comfortably fits a 13″ laptop in the base (though the opening is slightly narrow so it’s a tight squeeze to pull out!), and the sports luxe feel works really well with my laid back style. The quality of the leather is lovely, though given it appears to be a calfskin, it is a little delicate, and will be prone to scratching (which you can quickly buff out with the natural oils from your skin). I’ve done a full review on the bag here if you’d like to check it out, but I think this is a great option if you work in a more relaxed environment (or are freelance), and want a bag that will easily take you from work to weekend.

EVERLANE TWILL ZIPPER TOTE
My Cuyana leather tote has long since been my staple every day bag, but after eying this up for some time, I finally decided to pull the trigger and go for it. I love the fact that while it is a tote, it has a zip up closure meaning that all your belongings are secure. I went for the reverse denim with black leather (the black on black also looks lovely) which is a pretty neutral option and goes with most outfits. The fabric has softened up beautifully since I picked it up. The bag has a very minimal interior; one large open pocket and a smaller slip pocket on the side (which isn’t my favourite – I wish it had a zipper!). The style is quite slim and tucks in nice and close to the body. Personally, if I had my time over, I’d opt for the black as the grey does tend to pick up and show dirt, and due to the leather strap, you can’t throw this in the wash.

SHOES

EVERLANE EDITOR SLINGBACK FLATS
As soon as I saw these classic and elegant flats, I knew that they would be making their way into my wardrobe, and trust me when I say that this is a shoe you will not regret purchasing. The cut is spot on – it feels a little inspired by Paul Andrew’s rhea flats but without the designer price tag – and they’re comfortable straight off the bat. The leather feels stiff initially but relaxes and softens within one day of wear. These fit true to size, I went for my usual size US9.5 in Everlane shoes. You can read my full review (plus see some gorgeous snaps of these on) HERE.

EVERLANE MODERN TASSEL LOAFER MULE
This is one of those shoes that really surprised me, as I wasn’t anticipating just how much I’d actually like them. Everlane do shoes pretty well, and I loved this modern take on the loafer. The backless style is perfect for the relaxed office environment I currently work in – they look professional, though are still the kind of shoe that you might want to reach for on the weekend as well. This particular style does run small. For reference, I’m always a US9.5 in Everlane shoes (this translates to an EU40 in designer shoes), and I went up half a size to a US10. The leather is quite stiff, however I didn’t find that it bothered my wide feet too much, though I did take my time wearing these in.

EVERLANE STREET SHOE
This is basically a luxurious take on the slip on sneaker, but with the modern update of a pointed toe. Like the street sandal, these have that same contrasting sole which I think works really well with this style. These are super comfortable again, though they run on the narrow side so do size up half a size. I grabbed the US9 though should have opted for the US9.5.

EVERLANE MODERN LOAFER
Six years ago, I used to be the girl who wore heels everywhere; flats just weren’t part of my footwear arsenal and at the time, that didn’t seem to bother me. That was, until, I bought a pair of loafers. For me, the loafer is such a wardrobe staple and one which I think can so easily be dressed up or down. I took the plunge and picked these up last year when Everlane offered international shipping, as I wanted to have the option of returning them in case the sizing was completely off. I grabbed the US9, though these are a narrow fit and I highly recommend sizing up half a size as trust me when I say you’ll be doing your feet a huge favour. That being said, it took about six wears for the leather to soften up to the point that they’ve molded to the shape of my feet. The leather is thick, durable, and of high quality, though one thing you will notice is that you’ll get some creasing across the toe with wear. I’ve been eyeing these up in the blush and chestnut variations for a bit more of a feminine vibe.

EVERLANE MODERN BABO
When it comes to functionality, I think the modern babo takes the cake; the back panel of the shoe can be worn up, like an ankle boot, or tucked under the heel, like a slip on shoe. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to like these anywhere near as much as I do though these have stepped into play as one of my everyday shoes on regular rotation for the cooler months. The leather is extremely supple, perhaps the softest of all six pairs, making these a comfortable wear straight from the box. Again, like the loafer, you can expect to get a bit of creasing across the toe though I think with most shoes of this style, that’s pretty normal. These are a very near dupe for Acne’s amina flats, though at a much more affordable price point.

EVERLANE DAY HEEL
I was heavily anticipating the launch of Everlane’s first pair of heels, and I wasn’t disappointed. These are made of the softest leather, they fit like a glove, and have an extremely walkable 2 inch block heel – I walk the 45 minutes each way to and from work in these, without skipping a beat. Over time, the leather on these shoes will soften up even more, and mould to the shape of your foot, so you will see these lose the integrity of their shape at the toe (especially if you have wide feet, or bunions like me!). These fit true to size – if you’re an EU40 like me, I’d highly recommend going for the US9.5.

EVERLANE EDITOR HEEL
I might work in a more relaxed office environment, but I still prefer a pointed toe heel over a rounded toe any day, so I got pretty excited when I saw that Everlane were launching the ‘editor heels’. The marketing team very kindly gifted me a pair – I went with ‘taupe’, which is much more of a rich caramel beige hue, and a brilliant alternative to my usual black heels of choice. These are a suede so will require a little more care than a leather shoe, they have a reasonable 2 inch heel, and a squared off detail at the toe box (something a little unusual that I really like). I went for my usual size, a US9.5, and while these fit well, they are snug in the toe box. I haven’t worn these enough to say whether they will stretch out a little more around the toe, though I’d be hesitant to suggest sizing up in a shoe like this as your foot might be prone to slipping out. All in all however, a really lovely shoe.

EVERLANE V HEEL
I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited for these shoes to launch. I love a good low-heeled pump, and these seemed like a striking alternative to a high-end pair of pointed toe pumps I have from Charlotte Olympia (similar). At the time of writing this, I’ve had the shoes a few weeks and I’m still trying to break them in – so let’s just say I’m glad I stuck to ordering the one pair. I’m also a little on the fence about the design; the almond toe is cute, but the v-shaped vamp gives the shoes a vintage feel, which I found didn’t work with all my outfits – something which is an obvious pre-requisite for simple black pumps. That being said, I know I’m bound to get a lot of use out of these shoes as they’re relatively classic, and are well made. Opt for your usual size; they’re a narrow fit but the suede gives out quite quickly, it’s just the stiff heel that is hard to break in! You can check out my full review for these shoes here.

EVERLANE DAY HIGH HEEL
If you watch any of the videos on my YouTube channel, it’d be pretty difficult to argue that I wear any single shoe more than Everlane’s day heel, so when I found out that they were promising the same comfort with a higher heel, I was intrigued. And, they’ve not failed me yet. The biggest test for me was the first day I wore these, which saw me walk over 5 kilometres in these shoes, with another hour stood on my feet. It was only around the six-hour mark that I started to feel a bit of pinching from the pressure of the elastic at the heel – not bad considering that was their first outing. Safe to say, I’m impressed. I went with my actual size this time – the US9.5 – and they were a perfect fit. As with my original day heels, these will feel quite snug at first, but due to the nature of the leather, it’ll soften up significantly with wear, molding to the shape of your foot over time.

EVERLANE BOSS BOOTS
Aside from the day heels, if there’s one pair of shoes I’d recommend getting your hands on, it’s the boss boots. I’m the kind of girl who wears a pair of boots practically all winter long, so finding a high quality pair that doesn’t break the bank is usually at the top of my a/w winter wardrobe agenda. These tick all those boxes; they’re less than half the price of the famed Acne Studios jensen boots, and personally, I think that these are much more worth it. There’s some obvious style differences; these have a silver zipper where the Acne boots have an elasticated panel, and the heel is slightly higher, but these are pretty negligible for a boot that’s essentially going to give you the same look, and is on par quality wise. These fit true to size (I got the US 9.5), and are comfortable right off the bat. The leather is grained, and much softer than the leather on Everlane’s other boot offerings I have tried. At this stage I haven’t had the opportunity to wear them loads (it’s spring time in Sydney), but they’re softening up well! You can read my full review HERE.

EVERLANE HEEL BOOT
In my early twenties, a heeled chelsea boot was practically the only pair of shoes that I wore. All. Year. Round. So, these felt like a pretty natural fit to add into my wardrobe. Aesthetically, these are a really beautiful boot; they have a rounded almond toe, elasticated panels on each side which stretch the boot out for you to slip your foot in, and a nice chunky block heel. I mistakenly got these half a size small (went for the US9 instead of the US9.5) and found these an absolute mission to break in. The leather is very stiff, a little like the modern loafer, so it requires repeated wear to get it to give a little. The other point worth noting is that I’ve found that these do run quite narrow. I tend to find these relatively comfortable now, but after a full day on my feet, these tend to pinch at the sides a little. If you have narrow feet, these are absolutely worth going for – they are incredibly sturdy and well made, and even after repeated wear, still look really good – the only noticeable ‘wear’ is some creasing where the leather hits the ankle.

EVERLANE E1 ANKLE BOOT
Aside from how obviously aesthetically pleasing these are to look at, these are such a practical and comfortable boot. There’s the curved detail of the heel, a rounded toe, zip up closure on the inner side of the leg and the supple grain leather. Of the entire E1 capsule collection, the boots stuck out to me the most, and I haven’t once regretted adding these to my shoe-drobe. These run true to size – I went with the US9.5 but in hindsight definitely should have picked up the US9!

So, there you have it. Going on almost three years worth of purchases – sight unseen I might add – and the majority of what I’ve picked up has turned out to be a winner, which again, is a huge part of the reason why I keep going back to Everlane.

If you’re interested in seeing how these pieces translate in real life, I’ve done a full review video on my YouTube which you can check out here, though I’ll warn you now, it’s a long one.

I’m currently eying up their new poplin dresses, which look right up my street for Spring, and I’d also love to get my hands on more than a few things currently in their ‘coming soon’ section. I hope that you’ve found this Everlane review helpful, and if there’s anything else that you think is worth a second look, please do let me know in the comments below! x

I bought the anorak in midnight and love it. Also had to size down, but it’s nice and billowy for those spring/autumn weekend days.
I also have the glo-weave cropped trousers in navy and absolutely love them. Perfect work pants. However, I had to size UP for these!

I also bought the street sandal, but haven’t really worn them yet as it’s still too cold!

I have tried the cashmeres (both the vneck and the crew neck) but didn’t like the shape/cut. And I also tried the silk pocket blouse but ended up being an equipment shirt – the fit was far superior.

Oh and I have a few of the tshirts – the u-necks I think! And they are great but sheer. I like the grey colour, as it’s not see-through and the shape is a bit more sophisticated than your average tshirt.

I was really close to picking up the anorak late last year but realised it bore a striking resemblance to a midnight navy trench I have. It’s so lovely though! 🙂

I’m so surprised to hear you had to size up! Maybe it’s the cut I bought but yeah, my pair were HUGE which was so upsetting as I was really looking forward to wearing them to work.

Ah see I want to try out their v neck but yeah I suppose different shapes and tastes mean that the cut might not be suited for all. I haven’t had issues with the tees being sheer (I have the grey and black) though good to know if I ever consider picking up the white too.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Everlane! xx

Thanks for the reviews. I’ve only picked up some sandals, last year, but they’ve broken in well and look new after being worn every day all summer. If you pull up the sizing guide under each item they are now listing the dimensions of the actual garment, so it’s a simple matter of measuring it against a good fitting item you already own. This should take a lot of doubt out of the size question.

Thanks so much for your comment – I completely forgot that they have that sizing chart, probably because I always have the issue that its in inches and I’m so used to everything being in centimetres that it confuses me haha. Will have to take a look at that in future – I do like that earlier this year they started to include notes about whether you need to size up in a certain pair of shoes because when I first ordered the loafers, they weren’t doing that! 🙂

I have never tried Everlane, but I think you have just about convinced me to give the classic trench a try. I don’t mind that only the sleeves are lined as I get hot & sweat easily so it should be more light & breathable in the body. I also try to avoid synthetics so I usually opt for unlined everything – I picked my Acne Elsa coat which was my first big splurge in part because it is unlined. The only slight issue is it can be a little bit of work getting it on & off when wearing a sweater.

Ah see I’m the opposite – I always get so cold so I want everything to be lined haha. But yes it’s a nice piece just make sure to size down as mine’s pretty oversized (though once you do it up, it’s not noticeable). Your new Acne purchase sounds beautiful!! I saw it in Incu recently and it’s beautifully soft – great choice! xx

I’m also a huge Everlane fan myself and frequently purchase for my sisters who live back home in Auckland. (I’m lucky to be living in NYC!) My favorite pieces from Everlane include the Poplin shirts (I have both the white sleeveless and relaxed fit) and I also really love my sleeveless silk in the blush color. The pleated shorts are fantastic – part of my summer uniform (I have the navy and cream) and love to wear them with a shirt or blouse tucked in and flat sandals. Last summer I purchased a navy pair of the slingback sandal and a the dusky pink cotton lawn shirt – absolutely love these pieces too. I have been disappointed with the U neck tee, V neck tee and the white silk pieces – I’ve since parted with them. The Petra Magazine Tote in black is my perfect everyday bag – the leather is incredible quality (cf. J Crew or Cuyana leather totes, although the Petra is a more structured tote). I’ve had it for almost a year, use it daily and it still looks brand new! I also have the Cashmere Crew in rose – I get rid of the pilling easily with a de-pilling device and always hand wash mine with a delicates detergent. I recently purchased the Crew Neck tee but haven’t worn that yet. In terms of U.S. sizing in general, I have learnt it’s best to always purchase an XS or 0-2 here even though I’m an NZ 6-8 (and exactly your height) – I just think many brands run bigger. Thank you for such an excellent, comprehensive review – I enjoyed reading and watching the video! x

I’ve heard so many good things about the Petra Magazine Tote that I’m tempted to pick one up for myself eventually (just want to grab the shoulder bag first!). I find the same thing with some US brands, and usually I get surprised with how big something is as I’ll always just go for the larger option as I’m paranoid about something not fitting!! So glad that you liked the review and thank you so much for commenting with your own Everlane experiences xx

Hi Jaime, thanks for the detailed post (and video)! I have been buying Everlane for years; I think they are such a great resource for quality basics. It is nice to hear your opinion about fit and wear for some of the items I’ve had my eye on, like the silk square top. I’ve had to become a bit more selective in shopping from Everlane lately since I am currently living abroad and only stock up when am home for a visit. I will say that in the US the returns process is super easy and efficient – I think Everlane has among the best customer service of any online retailer. My favorite Everlane pieces are always the silk shirts and cashmere sweaters, but my surprise finds this year are the sweater tees – great lightweight but cozy knits with more of an oversized fit. Also, I don’t know if I just got lucky or if the color makes a difference, but I wore my chunky knit wool crew in black/grey marl non-stop last winter and it held up super well – even after being machine-washed (cold, gentle obviously). I am really looking forward to the autumn new releases – particularly the oxford and silk shirting. Thanks for all your reviews & always love your style!

Thanks so much for your comment Emily! You’re so lucky that you have the option of picking up a few new pieces when you go home so you can actually return them – it’s the biggest downfall for me so I typically tend to buy in waves and cross my fingers, thankfully most purchases have been great so far.

Re the wool sweater: it could be a different batch – though I have found that the cardigan looks a lot better after throwing it in the wash so will see how it continues to fare. Charlotte likes to climb up me when I wear it though so it has quite a few little snags in it cos of her now! xx

I’m planning on buying the cashmere turtleneck and the $100 cashmere crew. What is their fit like? Are the sweaters on the shorter side? I.E. Would they look okay with jeans/trousers that aren’t high rise? Thanks!

I have a whole video dedicated to this on my Youtube channel if you want to see the fit. Don’t go with the cropped cashmere – get the usual length. It’s perfect for wearing with jeans. I’d recommend sizing down as it is a loose fit (in my experience) x

I just received my first order from everlane and it’s really bad. They got 2 of the 4 items wrong. One wrong color (two black pants instead of one black and one blue) en a shirt in size small instead of large. And other order of the white turtleneck is completely see through.
so of 4 items only one pair of the black pants are correct.
And i can’t even call customer service!
why would you give a positive review for them unless being paid for it?
this is why I distrust online shopping.

Hi Judith – that is incredibly disappointing, and I’d be unhappy too if I were you.

I’ve ordered from Everlane a LOT – and just to clarify, these have been purchases with my own money – and I’ve never had an experience like that. I have had the occasional experience where some things I received haven’t been perfect (like the square silk shirt, or the boyfriend crew necks which I found didn’t wear very well) but I’ve always been sure to be upfront about those things as the last thing you want to do is buy something that doesn’t seem like what you thought!

I’m not sure what their number is but their email customer service is really good (I’ve emailed them once before – I can’t remember what about but what stuck was that there was a positive resolution straight away) so I would reach out to them as I’m sure they will be able to help you.

Again sorry to hear that you didn’t have the best experience and I hope that you’re able to sort it out!

Just wanted to say something about the sizing. In the US. a 25 is normally a 0. Only very few brands have sizes less than a 24.

Also love your blog. I’m an American reader obviously and I share you’re love of Everlane. Currently wearing the heavy striped long sleeve tee.

From experience I’ve found different brands have different sizing – generally I’ve found a size 24 in jeans would be the equivalent of an AU6 or US size 2 (you can’t really buy anything that would be the size of a US0 in Australia that I know of – I can imagine that would be teeny!). Everlane definitely tends to run on the larger side though for sure! 🙂

Thank you so much! The striped long tee is amazing 🙂 Wishing you all the best for 2018 xx
