Barrage of stripes

Comme des Garcons Play stripe top, Karen Walker skirt, Helmut Lang blazer, Topshop shoes, Cheap Monday & Karen Walker rings

Oh yes, another outfit with yet another striped top. I suppose the cat is out of the bag; I tend to wear stripes quite often, considering that they make up a large proportion of the tops that I do own. So in a way, you could be grateful that the assault of stripes is not as furious as it could be.

Having blogged for a number of years, under Mademoiselle, pagesixxx, and other names which I appear to have momentarily erased from memory, I’ve always felt so compelled to share with my readers something new, or at least forced myself to combine things I haven’t before to create a seemingly new outfit. Something which is not realistic, unless you have a bottomless bank account. At that time, the amount of clothing in my wardrobe was unmanageable, and I often felt like I had nothing to wear, even as I stood in front of a closet that was bursting at the seams.

I feel like I’ve grown a lot since then, no longer feeling any kind of stigma towards wearing the same outfit twice (although still not sure I could do this two days in a row!), or incorporating the same piece day in and day out. It’s been interesting to note what I gravitate towards the most, and what I don’t, and also recognise how unprepared for winter months my wardrobe actually is – it’s no wonder that I rely on a big coat, gloves, wool beanie and a scarf when venturing outside, and the warmth of a heater when indoors.

It’s a nice change of pace, relishing the familiar and loved, as opposed to the new and unknown in my wardrobe, as I find myself throwing on the same pieces again and again. Not exactly a capsule wardrobe per se, but with enough variety to stop me from becoming bored. I won’t count my chickens, but it could be that the glean of having new things is finally starting to wear off, or not, as I can attest that old habits die hard.

being bloggers i think we sometimes get caught in this bubble, i mean, “normal” people wear the same clothes all the time, so i’m glad to read your thoughts on this. i like to think of my own blog as an ongoing documentation of what i wear instead of what i buy, trends don’t work for everyone so i think it’s important to also be true to your own style (which will evolve of course) but not clamour to have the latest platform shoes etc.. šŸ˜‰

love this outfit btw! and i love stripes too, so i totally get it!

    So true.
Also I’m finding that the latest trends are not really working for me. In the past I would have made them work – some how – now I’m just excited about utilising what I own to put my own spin on it. Maybe a cute little light coloured blazer is in order and a basic silk top of two that do not scream Summer 2012. THAT’S IT.

LOVE this outfit. The striped shirt is cute, but paired with the brocade skirt – TOTALLY FAB!

I definitely understand the pressure of never posting the same outfit/item twice, but it’s completely unsustainable for those of us without neverending disposable incomes. at least blogging gives us a way of forcing ourselves to come up with new and different ways of wearing the same old things šŸ™‚ xx

I love your top and blazer! I am trying to stop randomly buying new clothes and just work out what I need in my wardrobe.

Seriously, can you stop looking so perfect all the time? Everything you wear looks so effortless! I loved reading this post, it’s always nice to see bloggers who re-wear items or rely on the same staple pieces. It’s so much more relatable. Now if only I had your closet to re-wear…. šŸ˜‰
