Birkenstocks. The sandal that epitomizes the shoe of my youth; what was once a cult item amongst my friends seems to have resurfaced in the most unlikely of places. Mine were of the mono-strap variety, a crisp white which just like a pair of Cons, seemed to get better with age. Your toes would furrow into the carefully thought out soles, which offered more comfort than most other shoes I’ve owned, especially after a full day on your feet.

I was probably just as surprised as anyone else to see this dual-strapped style appear on the runway for Celine, and unlike the ‘big bird’ heels, this style really seems to have taken off. Love them or hate them, they seem to be everywhere right now, which has me thinking, do I really want to go back there again? I think for me, I’ll be leaving these for the memories of those early teenage years, but I can’t help but admire the panache with which these girls pull off this unlikely pair of sandals.

I’ve gone back there Jamie! Double straps are so much comfier than those singles we used to rock at age 14. xx

Really?! It’s funny because I uncovered my single straps last year and sold them on Trade Me, as I was convinced they would a) never be fashionable again, and b) I was unlikely to wear them again. Perhaps I should have held onto them a little longer.

I actually gasped when i saw this, i’ve seen them everywhere this week but have a total love hate relationship with them! Like they were the most comfortable thing ever but do i really want to feel like a) a shameless 10yr old girl or b) a homeless nomad all in the sake of looking fashionable.. Ill keep thinking

Haha yes! You put everything I’m currently feeling into words. Glad I’m not the only one!

So not on board with this one! I’m sure they’re comfortable, but so are uggs and I wouldn’t wear those out of the house either. Personally not going for these this Summer haha.

I have them in black and white, they were literally superglued to my feet all summer. My mum told me I looked like a lesbian but I think she’s just jealous

they look cool on every girl seen in these pictures but I can’t stand them on my own feet. Not ‘en publique’ anyway .. the white ones makes me think of easy footwear nurses sport in hospitals.
So they are a no-no for me.

LOL! I see what you mean. The more that I look at them, the less appealing they seem. I can’t help but prefer a far daintier sandal!

I have to say, I am not a massive fan of Birkenstocks but they do look pretty cool here!

Birks have been plaguing my thoughts as well! I had a pair as a teen but I think I’ll leave them be this time around too. x

I’ve never had a pair because they just don’t look great on me, but they’re so comfy that I’ve always wanted to like them. It’s like a foot massage.
