Wearing Ellery dress & Everlane trench coat

I’m not the most patient of girls; when I decide I want something, I want it then and there, none of this waiting business. I’d like to say that this isn’t a hangover of growing up as an (extremely spoilt) only child, but I think Luke would probably argue otherwise!

So, when I finally discovered Everlane, with their transparent policies and their effortlessly minimal designs, I wasn’t about to let the fact that they didn’t ship internationally stop me (and it hasn’t, for the better part of the last two years!). Which is why I was pretty excited to receive some Everlane-related news over the weekend, which is just too good not to share.

Starting today, Everlane is shipping internationally to 50 countries, for one. week. only. There’s a flat rate shipping fee of $15 USD – regardless of how little (or how much) you purchase – and returns are accepted up to 90 days after your order has been received. And of course, there’s the hope that this will become a permanent offering from the site (…pretty please!).

For me, I’ll be using this as an excuse to pick up the pieces I haven’t felt confident enough to buy without a returns policy – like a pair of masculine leather loafers, or a luxurious Petra leather satchel. If you’re still feeling a little unsure of the sizing (shopping online can be a bit of gamble at the best of times), I’ve put together my own guide – with measurements – that you can read here. But now… on to the trench…

My most recent purchase, is undeniably a result of my on-going campaign of investing in wardrobe classics; and while a Burberry trench is completely out of the question – I do have a trip to Europe/USA and a wedding to save for! – Everlane’s own offering was right up my street.

I picked this up in a size S, and I’m still in two minds over whether I should have gotten an XS, but I’ll let you all be the judge. This is a loose fit through the body, and the sleeves have a lot of wiggle room so it’s perfect to throw on over a big snuggly sweater when the weather is just starting to get cool. For reference, I’m an AU 6-8 or US 2-4, and admittedly, I do feel like this swamps me – just a little – when worn open.

The jacket itself is made from a premium water resistant cotton canvas, and you can feel the quality the moment you pull it out of the box. It’s very sturdy, with a stiffness to it that lends a lot of structure to the overall fit. The jacket is only partially lined in the sleeves (meaning the majority of the seams within the jacket are visible when hanging), which is not my favourite, but I do think that it allows the jacket to have a more lightweight feel to it.

One of the details I love are the large, thick, buttons on the jacket; these are such a small element of the overall jacket but add an element of luxury (and quality) to the piece. The trench can be worn three ways; open, buttoned up and belted or tied at the waist, or with the lapels completely folded up and buttoned at the collar. I’m a huge fan of tying fabric belts at the waist where I can, and I love that this trench has such a l-o-n-g belt that makes doing so completely effortless.

For those of you considering purchasing one of these trench coats for yourselves, I’ve put together a video review where you can watch this in motion. If the trench is a little out of your price range (I think we can all agree that the current AU/US exchange rate is pretty terrible right now…), I’d love to know what you are considering picking up. Remember – you’ve got until Sunday!! x

Ah what a great news! I have heard of Everlane so many times and kind of intrigued to place an order from the site. Unfortunately it’s only a 7 day promo. Also I’m not that brave to order clothes online, I need to feel the fabric as well as put it on me to seal the deal. I also already locked my spending because I’m doing the project 333 and it’s not time to shop yet :p But your trench coat looks so beautiful on you 🙂 Oh also congratulations on your engagement! 🙂 😀

Woohoo for international shipping! Better take advantage while you can, hehe. I bet they’ll keep it if their test goes well.
I just ordered 2 new tees this past weekend and will probably add a few pieces to my Christmas list

Total coincidence: I just posted a review of the Everlane trench coat today too! Your photos are a bit more comprehensive in showing it from all the angles… I also decided to keep mine and had some of the same thoughts, especially about the lack of full lining. I got the XS (largely because I’m short, and the measurements in the chest and body really are quite roomy relative to Everlane’s usual sizing).

I think I might be feeling a bit more angst about my decision to keep it because I’m not sure the looser fit and the 100% cotton fabric are the most flattering for me. (A few brands seem to do their trench coats with cotton blended with a bit of spandex, and I wonder if something like that with a more fitted look would have been a better choice for me.)

A great trench coat is such a must! I like this looser fit on you, I think you made a great choice!
