The first designer showcase, for the consumer-driven event, Fashion in the Capital, was held this evening, showcasing SS 13/14 looks from Robyn Mathieson, deNada, Millicent, Wilson Trollope, Desiree, Jill & Ange, and Miss Selfridge. Running adjacent to New Zealand Fashion Week, it gives the public the opportunity to get involved in what has typically been an industry-only affair. I popped backstage before the show began while models were being prepped by hair & make-up. Models were practically fresh-faced, bar a subtle smoky eye and a nude lip – a huge nod to Spring beauty. Hairstyles varied between a sleek side-twisted low-ponytail and a messy bun which sat in the nape of the neck.
Unlike Fashion Week, where designers show their next season collections, FitC is a series of shows which feature clothing currently available to buy. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to capture many photo’s during the show, but what I can tell you is that these designers did not shy away from colour, and carefully considered attention to detail.
