The five pairs of boots you need to have in your winter wardrobe

five winter boots every girl should have in her wardrobe

As cliche as it sounds, winter is coming, and if there’s one staple that I’m reluctant to leave the house without once it starts to cool down, it’s a sturdy pair of boots. While I might be skipping out on just under a month of winter for some of the Northern Hemisphere sunshine, I’ve rounded up five of my must-have boots for the colder months ahead.

The over-the-knee boot
Where form meets function; or at least, that’s what I tell myself every time I spot a pair of Stuart Weitzman highland boots (in black, of course) and start thinking about how great a pair would look in my closet. If we’re being honest – and I always am – the highland boots are a little out of my budget, so I’ve been hunting around for a more reasonably priced alternative, and stumbled across this pair from Tony Bianco, which won’t break the bank.

The heeled chelsea boot
There used to be a time when a day wouldn’t go by without my heeled chelsea boots making their way onto my feet. I love that they slip on, and it’s such a classic style that just seems to elevate an outfit. I have a pair tucked away in my closet from Zimmermann and there’s nothing more comfortable (aside from a well made pair of ballet flats, that is).

The embellished boot
It’s been a number of years since I sold my Chloe ‘susannah’ boots, and to this day I still have regrets. They might knock you back a pretty penny (okay, a LOT of pretty pennies), but they are one of those shoes that really makes a statement. Toga Pulla sell a similar buckled pair that won’t set you back quite as much.

The knock-around ankle boot
I think I’ve said this a million times by now, but I spend a good part of my morning and evening commute walking. For me, a classic yet durable knock around boot is essential during the cooler months, and more than a year on, my Acne Studios jensen boots are still going strong. For those on the hunt for a more affordable pair, I love these ones by Marc Fisher – they’re the spitting image of my jensens!

The velvet boot
The nineties has been making a real comeback (chokers anybody?), and to me, nothing sums up those cherished years of my youth than crushed velvet everything. While I’m unlikely to pull my Charlotte Olympia kitty flats off my feet anytime soon, I love a pair of lush velvet booties can add a layer of texture to an outfit. While I love the idea of adding a pair of kitty cat booties to my shoe collection, I have a feeling that this gorgeous black velvet pair from Saint Laurent will be a lot more practical…
