On fashion week and other musings

With fashion week(s) well and truly over, I’m beginning to understand how attending these in succession can be a complete test of one’s endurance. One week in, and I started to get the Fashion Week flu, which I can assure you is not something to be scoffed at, as I continue to force feed myself Vitamin C in an effort to keep my lingering cough and on-going headaches at bay. What from the outside appears glamorous, effortless and I suppose for a better word, fun, is in fact, for the most part, further from reality than you might expect. My coffee intake increased dramatically over the last two weeks, attributed for the most part to a lack of food and sleep, both of which I’ve seemingly been making up for over the last couple of days; and my feet, no longer appear to be aching having spent hours waiting in lines with little support from the cement floors.

Of course it isn’t all bad, and personally I believe that the positives far outweigh any minor discomfort that could be derived from attending. The venue for MBFWA, the Carriageworks, essentially became a hive of activity, with each show generating the same amount of buzz and excitement as the last as delegates poured out of one show only to shortly after line up for the next. To be among one of only 2,000 in attendance, was in itself incredibly humbling; one of those ‘oh my god’ moments that still seems surreal. Then there were the shows outside the show; hoards of fashionably dressed men and women, enough to make a girl feel considerably under dressed on a daily basis, a veritable palette of fashion inspiration and any photographer’s dream. But probably one of the biggest highlights for me has to be the number of unbelievably kind and fascinating people that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the last couple of weeks, adding to a truly phenomenal experience.

As much as I’ve enjoyed the last two weeks, there is some relief that comes with knowing that for now, I can slowly sink back into reality, which started by spending virtually an entire weekend cosied up in bed watching back to back episodes of My Kitchen Rules and Grand Designs, lifetimes away from my fashion-fueled escapades.

I know exactly what you mean! Everyone thinks it must just be all glitz & glamour, but the reality is it’s not all fun! Like you said though, the good definitely outweighs the bad & just getting to go along is amazing & the people you meet are always the best part! Hope you’ve managed to recover now after you’re chilled weekend! 🙂

Wow that’s really an honor to be one of only 2,000! At least now that it’s over you can properly rest. The draping on your top is beautiful 🙂

I feel slightly better about Fashion week now that you’ve clued us in to it’s less than glamorous undertones. I guess with anything in life, until you experience it for yourself, you can’t really know what it’s like. I just spent the last two weeks traveling non stop around London, Edinburgh and Oxford and while it was super fun, it’s oh so nice to come home and relax for a bit. I need to catch up on my bloglovin cue which as it stands is 825 posts!!!
