Secret South, Spring Summer 13/14

Once again, it’s raining, it’s windy, and well, just downright miserable. After all that talk about winter being behind us, instead of the soft pitter patter of rain, or a light, cool breeze, we find ourselves bracing for a huge storm, which thwarted the attempts of many to fly into the Capital all yesterday. Which might explain why instead of staring forlornly at the grey skies out my window, I’ve found myself transfixed on Secret South’s Spring/Summer collection – vibrant, sophisticated, and in essence, everything these warmer months should be.

Formerly known as ‘Secret Squirrel’, the label underwent some big changes last year, dropping the old moniker in favor of ‘Secret South’. It’s a risky move, but one which has paid off, indicative of how far the label has come, evolved, and grown since its inception.

Once again, the label stays true to its aesthetic, with its Spring/Summer 13/14 collection; a garden of minimal, clean cut garments with a huge emphasis on colour, the signature floral and glacial print feel like a breath of fresh air. Inspired by a recent move to the beach, the beauty is in the subtle details, the illusion of waves within a print, or the soft neutral colour palette, which nods to the earthy tones of the sand and cliffside rocks. Luxurious silks, luscious leathers, and soft linens are the fabrics my summer dreams are made of, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Gorgeous. The second outfit is my favourite. It kind of remind me of how I dressed as a kid, but in a grown up way. I’d definitely wear that. What kind of prices are their pieces?

Oh gosh yes, I’ve had to stop myself from buying everything. Prices range from about $150-$350 or so. I recently bought a pair of wool pants on sale ($125 when I bought them, now $80 !!) and the cut and quality is really nice. The white leather top is everything.
