Three ways to give your space an instant update

Whether that be some new wardrobe staples, a bold new lip colour, or an update to your home decor; a little bit of a refresh can be a welcome change. Since getting my autumn wardrobe in check, I’ve had my eye on my next project – our living space. With a few new pieces of furniture currently on the cards, my focus has been on those smaller changes which combined, or even on their own, can have a big impact on the mood and overall aesthetic of a room. So turning the attention to the walls, these are my three go-to tricks to give any space an instant update:

INVEST IN A STATEMENT PRINT
One of my favourite updates to our home has been a simple A0 Ampersand print; it’s clean, it’s bold, and hung on the wall of our spacious living room, it well and truly makes an impact that hits you as soon as you enter the space. Similarly, in our hallway, I’ve hung up a large Prada Marfa print (a nod to all those years of watching Gossip Girl), which is the first thing that greets you when you walk through the front door.

LEAN YOUR FRAMES
It’s tempting to want to pop a few nails in the wall for every new frame I bring home, but given that we’re currently renting, any DIY of that sort is instantly ruled out. When there aren’t any notches on the wall, and when adhesive hooks aren’t going to work, I’ve taken to leaning my frames up against the wall. Aside from the fact that this give you the flexibility to update your space in an instant, I love how relaxed, nonchalant and dare I say – French – it looks. My current favourite update has been the addition of two large prints in our bedroom, which are currently sitting atop our dresser, opting for this calming ocean print and this print of soft graphic clouds. These dreamy prints in their simple black frames provide a bit of symmetry and are the perfect complement to each other.

CREATE A MOOD BOARD
I’ve been seeing a lot of square wall grids making the rounds on Instagram lately, and I love how a few carefully curated prints and textiles can really change the feel of a space. Hanging at the back of my office, I’ve started to create a mood board that I’m hoping to slowly fill out as I feel inspired. I picked up my wall grid from Bunnings (though this one is a great small option), and currently have a calendar, inspirational quote, a Lover postcard from when I bought my wedding dress, and a copper ribbon. It’s not quite Pinterest-worthy yet, but I feel like this is the kind of update that you can take your time with, and change as the seasons – or months – go by.

That grid is actual genius. White boards are a bit school roomish and cork boards leave holes in your pictures, this way totally gets around it. It would be so easy to spray paint it into any colour as well. Totally going to steal this idea!

Did you buy the Princetown?! How exciting!!! I actually just picked up the slingback version over the weekend. Cannot wait to get a rubber sole on it to wear. Eee!! Greetings from SF!

I actually managed to find a more affordable ‘inspired’ version – I was looking at the Princetown and eventually came to the realisation that it’s not a forever shoe for me, and one I’d maybe wear for a season or so (even then the concept of slide loafers seems weird to me!) so I felt like investing in the Gucci pair probably wasn’t the smartest choice given that. They are gorgeous though and I love the slingback pair – so exciting for you! 🙂
