Everlane silk tank, Country Road cardigan, Lover valentine lace skirt, Isabel Marant poppy heels (in gold), Celine trio

I’ve been meaning to put this post together for such a long time – something along the lines of a ‘what I wear for work’ series, but time has just continued to escape me. I’ve shared a couple of my more recent work outfits here and here (think ankle grazing trousers and dresses which skim the knees), but this really rounds out the trio; a pencil skirt, silk tank, and a long cosy cardigan paired with the tallest of tall heels I have hiding in the back of my closet.

This past year, I’ve started to become the type of person who doesn’t want to have to put much thought into my daily ensembles. Give me a simple uniform of a+b+c and I’m good to go – plus, it cuts down on time standing in front of the wardrobe asking the question, ‘what am I going to wear today?’. And it probably explains why I so willfully took on two wardrobe challenges in the space of a month.

In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I work in the corporate head office for a company in the media industry, so for me, it’s all about dressing smart and looking professional. I’ve eschewed most pieces which come too high above the knee for daily wear (you have to draw a line somewhere…), and have gone the easy route by stocking up on simple silk basics for on top.

These photos were taken pre-shift to suburbia, so you can see this was an idea completely backed by good intentions. What I am hoping to do in the next couple of months is share with you a how-to on building a corporate wardrobe from scratch. Where to scrimp, where to splurge, and my top spots for picking up something professional (which if you’re lucky, can do double duty on the weekend). If you’ve got any specific questions on the topic, let me know in the comments below so that I can be sure to include it in the guide.

Where did you buy your Celine from please? I’m tossing up whether to buy from here or OS…. Thankyou!

Hi there, I purchased my Celine from David Jones. They have quite a good selection and seem to get a lot of new stock in on a regular basis. They also have a two month layaway option if you’re a bit wary about dropping so much cash on a purchase in one go 🙂

Corporate dressing is nothing if not a challenge, but there are so many small tricks that make it easier that you learn over time. I’m lucky enough now to work from home (albeit for the same corporation I’ve been with for years) but before that change happened, I had developed an extensive wardrobe of tailored dresses, silk blouses and pencil skirts. None so pretty as the white one you’re wearing here, though!

I agree – and I certainly had my fair share of stumbles when I first started getting into it. Lucky you being able to work from home though, I imagine it must make dressing a whole lot easier!

Yeah, I’m the same way when it comes to everyday dressing and just dressing in general. I try to pick a combo in as least amount of time as possible and yeah having some sort of uniform makes that easier. This is such a chic work look but I also love that it works just as well in another setting. Looking beautiful per usual!

Totally agree. I’m not sure if I’ve just gotten really lazy or what but I’m finding I want to spend less time thinking about what I’m wearing and more time just doing things x
