A small bedroom update

west elm mid century 6 drawer dresser

I’ve probably said this a few times, but we’ve been pretty slow to make any new additions to our place (though saving for a trip to Europe/USA and a wedding will do that to you!). That being said, our IKEA dresser is getting a little bit of an upgrade as we have this gorgeous 6 drawer dresser from West Elm currently making its way to us. One thing I am a little bit stuck on, is whether we go for the full set and grab the matching side tables after the wedding, or if we stick to my original idea of grabbing a minimal gem faceted side table from Tuckbox… Any thoughts?

We’re doing the same! We got a full refund for our 10 year old, falling apart IKEA dressers during the recent recall & are going to put the money towards a solid maple dresser by Pacific Rim to go with our platform bed by them since I’m so pleased with the quality. They make heirloom quality, solid wood furniture at reasonable prices.

The West Elm dresser you have on order looks great.

As for the side table – I’d for sure go with the minimal gem faceted side table over the West Elm. It’s very minimal and attractive & I always prefer solid wood over veneers/MDF. Our current nightstands, which I also hope to upgrade soon – also with Pacific Rim, have a drawer & a shelf, & haven’t used either for storage if that helps. 🙂

How nice is it knowing that you’re investing in something you’re going to have for years to come? I’m so excited as ours is arriving tomorrow and cannot wait to get rid of the falling apart IKEA one we have.

The reason I’m tempted by the drawers is that Luke usually has a lot of his stuff on the floor next to the bed and he also has asthma so I figure it might be a good idea for that. Also we’re looking to get a bed frame (currently just sitting on a base) and I’m not sure the gem faceted side tables would go with that and the dresser. I guess we’ve still got some time to think about it though! 🙂

Hi Claire, thank you so much for your comment! I’ll probably start changing it up from next month though it seems like people want a bit of a monthly mash up so will see how I can incorporate everything 🙂
Strange that you couldn’t comment on YT – sorry about that!

Funny, I went through a similar quandary recently – as I was resting being too “matchy”. While the gem tables are really attractive, they are small, so they don’t offer much surface area. Also, from a practical standpoint, it is also nice to have drawers. (I always had a pile of books, etc. on the ground when I had a little bedside table rather than a nightstand with drawers.) With that in mind, I would probably go with the matching nightstands. Whichever you choose will look lovely!

I’m leaning towards the matching tables just because I know that the drawer space will be useful for Luke (his things always spill over onto the floor – we’re using IKEA stools as side tables at the moment!) though I’m not entirely sure that they will fit beside the bed in our current place!
