It’s official. Autumn is my favourite season. After spending months feeling like it’s a chore to put on a single item of clothing due to the heat, that transition to layering up cosy separates is a welcome change. Down under, we’re smack bang in the middle of our spring season, but today I’m teaming up with Everlane to share my favourite cosy wardrobe staples for fall.

A CLASSIC COAT

Let’s start with a classic coat; a wardrobe staple I feel is 100% worth the investment for the colder months. And honestly, it doesn’t get more timeless than Everlane’s Italian ReWool Overcoat. The style is unfussy and simple, and in a silhouette that won’t date. I’ve added my fair share of coats to my closet over the years, but if I had to whittle it down to one, this would be it. If you need proof that it goes with everything, then you should watch this video I shared a couple months back.

The detail that I love most about this coat, is that it’s made from completely recycled materials. It’s double-faced, and feels really heavyweight. Cosy, even. A good solid option if you live in a colder climate, and the sleeves have enough room to layer some chunky knitwear underneath. I wear mine in a size US2 as it comes up a little bit large. But you could stick with your usual size (for me, a US4) if you wanted extra space for ultra chunky knitwear.

And did I mention that it’ll never go out of style? Definitely a purchase where you can’t go wrong.

THE ANKLE BOOT

Next up is the ankle boot. Personal preference here, but I like something that’s going to give me a bit of height. I tend to dress pretty casually, so it’s a simple way to figuratively (and quite literally) lift an outfit. Now this is a pair I’m wishing I’d had on rotation for our Australian winter just gone. These are the Everlane Boss Boot in ReKnit. I know

I’ve not been shy about talking of my love for Everlane’s ReKnit line. It’s made from recycled plastic bottles (which is bloody brilliant), and so incredibly comfortable. During the warmer months I wear my ReKnit Day Gloves on repeat as they’re one of the few shoes I can wear all day and not get a single blister wearing. Safe to say that these are now my winter equivalent.

Slightly different to the leather Boss Boots, the ReKnit version comes a little higher up the leg. I love this as it gives you a little bit of extra coverage around the ankle area. And it also makes these a perfect contender for pairing with straight leg jeans as it bridges that gap nicely. They also look great with skinny jeans, as well as mini skirts and dresses. I took my usual size in Everlane shoes for these; a US9.5.

If you live somewhere that rains a lot, then I’d recommend going with the original leather version. These will give your feet a bit more protection against the elements.

THE OVERSIZED SWEATER

I’m sure you all saw this one coming from a mile away. My ultimate cosy wardrobe staple for the colder months is an oversized sweater. And my most worn this year through autumn and winter, was my Everlane Oversized Alpaca Crew

Wearing Everlane oversized alpaca crew; Everlane alpaca cropped cardigan; Everlane authentic stretch skinny jeans

This is a really great alternative to cashmere (though Everlane’s ReCashmere sweaters are also excellent), and much easier to maintain too. Alpaca wool is resistant to pilling, ultra warm while still feeling lightweight, and it’s less itchy than sheep wool.

These sweaters are so incredibly effortless to style, and the soft nature of the wool makes them easy to tuck; there’s not lots of bulk like you might get with other oversized knits. For my “mom” life, I tend to wear these most often loosely tucked into a pair of skinny or straight leg jeans. Also love how they look with a linen trouser for those slightly warmer days.

There’s some gorgeous new colours out for fall. Above I’m have on the Oversized Alpaca Crew in Heathered Fern and Dark Copper/Almond, and the Alpaca Cropped Cardigan in Heathered Black.

I wear mine in a size S, and it’s the perfect oversized fit. It’s a super easy style to care for too. I pop mine in the washing machine (in a delicates bag) on a cold hand wash setting, and it comes out looking like new.

A BLANKET SCARF

My final cosy wardrobe essential for fall is a snuggly scarf. Something big, that you can drape around yourself like a blanket. Cashmere always feels like such a treat, and it delivers 2x the warmth of regular sheep’s wool, so it’s the perfect material for a scarf. I love the new colours that Everlane have launched for fall for their Cashmere Scarf. Especially the heathered oatmeal. It’s such a pretty cool toned neutral (their cashmere dress also comes in this hue), and I love how it pairs with my “almond” alpaca crew. This is the kind of thing that is perfect to stash away in your bag; I’d not only wear this like a traditional scarf, but also drape it over my shoulders, or fashion it into a cosy pillow for a long car trip.

So those are my top four cosy wardrobe essentials for fall. Thanks again to Everlane for partnering with me on this post.

PS. For the next two days only, you can score Everlane’s Grade A Cashmere Crew Sweater for $75 (USD). This is an absolute steal, and a great opportunity to give your cold weather wardrobe a top up!
