Everlane Denim Guide 2021

Everlane Denim Guide 2021

Denim is definitely a staple in my style wheelhouse. Something I have to quite literally stop myself from wearing daily; especially during the colder months. And always on heavy rotation is my Everlane denim

So I thought today I’d share an in-depth Everlane denim guide, talking through every single style I currently have in my closet. Along with a mini-review on each style, I’ll also have photos (front and back), in addition to notes on sizing and fit. If you’ve had your eye on any of these styles, I really hope you find this useful.

A big thank you to Everlane for partnering with me on this post.

Okay, let’s dive in.

My measurements

Waist: 65.5cm
Hip: 93.5cm
Inseam to ankle: 69cm
Height: 172cm

Everlane 90s Cheeky Straight Jean

I’m wearing: a size 25 ankle in the colour “vintage sunbleached blue”
Fabric: 100% cotton
Sizing: Runs large. Size down for a cinched fit at the waist, or if in between sizes opt for the smaller of the two.

Being made from 100% cotton, the first thing you’ll notice when you slip into these jeans is that they have no stretch. I mean zilch. I personally love that. It gives them this slightly vintage feel, and they feel really robust.

I take these in the size 25, which I think is a great fit on me. There’s no extra fabric across the hips (my widest point), and they’re relaxed through the thigh. If you prefer a “baggier” fit, then stick with your usual size, keeping in mind you’ll probably need to belt them at the waist. As I have more of a petite length inseam, I opt for the “ankle” length. This gives me a nice cropped finish just above the ankle, which is really flattering given the tapered silhouette.

The Everlane 90s Cheeky Straight Jean are up there as one of my favourite denim styles. EVER. So much so that I have them in a few different washes. These have more of a vintage feel and are more relaxed than the original cheeky’s. Will talk about those, soon.

From a wear and tear perspective, these hold up incredibly well, and don’t bag out or sag at all. It’s two thumbs up from me. Plus, these are a great option if you’re just dipping your toe into straighter leg denim styles.

Everlane Original Cheeky Jean

I’m wearing: a size 25 ankle in the colour “bone”
Fabric: 98% cotton 2% elastane
Sizing: True to size. Stick with your usual size or size down for a closer fit.

The jean that really made me fall in love with a “straighter” leg were these; the Everlane original cheeky jean. I shared my first review on them years ago now, but you can have a read here if you’re curious

I own these in the size 25 ankle, and as you can see, they fit, but they’re a little snug across the hip since having a baby. Pre-baby I was a true 25, these days I’m closer to a true 26. So, if I were to purchase these over, to have that bit of ease in the fit, I would go for the 26. If you prefer more of a skinny cigarette fit, then go for a smaller size; there’s a bit of elastane in the fabric composition which gives this style some stretch.

Which is essentially to say, if you’re after a pair of tapered straight jeans that are forgiving, I’d choose the original style over the 90s version. I do find that these will relax the more that you wear them, and then they snap back after a quick run through the washing machine.

A great all rounder that you really can’t go wrong with.

Everlane Way-High Jean

I’m wearing: a size 25 in the colour “coal”
Fabric: 90% organic cotton & 2% elastane
Sizing: Runs slightly large. Size down for a cinched fit at the waist, or if in between sizes opt for the smaller of the two.

As a girl with a long torso, I really appreciate the Way-High Jean. It comes up just over the belly button, giving me the right proportional balance I often crave in my outfits. If you love a high-rise straight jean, these are 100% worth adding to cart. They’re fitted in all the right places, but still have that very relaxed shape through the leg.

Knowing that Everlane (straight leg) denim can come up a little large, I opted for the 25 in these, and am glad I did. They’re not quite glove-like, but they also don’t feel like they’re sagging off my waist or hips.

I have them in two colours; “coal”, which I’m wearing above, and “distressed”. The “coal” hue I love for it’s raw distressed hemline, and deeply saturated wash. It’s not *quite* black, but pretty darn close, and I love that subtle differentiation as it looks interesting when worn with a “true” black top. One thing to note, as with most black jeans, they will be prone to picking up a bit of fluff so having a good lint roller is a must.

The “distressed” is a nice mid-blue option, with a faint line that runs down the centre and a finished hem. Despite the slight variation in fabric composition, they both fit the same at the waist, but the “distressed” pair do have a longer inseam. On me I find the length great for winter, especially when paired with an ankle boot as there’s no gap between the shaft of my boots and the hem of the jean.

Everlane Way-High Skinny Jean

I’m wearing: a size 26 in the colour ”vintage blue”
Fabric: 55% organic cotton, 25% viscose, 18% recycled polyester & 2% elastane
Sizing: True to size. Stick with your usual size.

As far as I’m concerned, the skinny jean is far from over. I’ve only worn them for two decades, and am all set to keep them on rotation for two more. At least

Again, I was thrilled to see that this high rise wasn’t just limited to the straight jean, but my beloved skinny as well. These jeans have unbelievable stretch, and basically just hug every contour of your body. I’m wearing the size 26, and they’re a perfect fit on me.

Despite the weighty feel of the fabric, these are incredibly stretchy. I’m talking lunge-level stretch; comfortable enough to lounge around in and then some. I’m actually fairly certain at one point I may have even had a nap wearing these.

Currently just available in two colours, this mid-blue (which has a bit more of a raw denim look to it in person and as evidenced above), and a classic black.

Everlane Super-Soft Relaxed Jean

I’m wearing: a size 25 in the colour “vintage light blue”
Fabric: 100% cotton
Sizing: Stick with your usual size for a relaxed fit, or go down a size for a closer fit (similar to the cheeky straight)

Okay so I want to talk a little about intended fit vs desired fit for this next pair of Everlane jeans. How a brand intends an item to fit you, might not necessarily be how you desire for said item to look on.

And that’s what’s informed my sizing preference for the Super-Soft Relaxed Jean. I’m not all the way there yet with uber relaxed jeans; I want my hips to feel hugged by denim. So I sized down to the 25. A 26 also would have looked good, and had that ease and “chill” component to the fit.

Despite being 100% cotton and having no stretch, these are tremendously comfortable. They don’t feel too heavy-weight, so a good option if you live in a slightly cooler climate and are after a summer jean.

Everlane Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinny Button Fly Jean

I’m wearing: a size 26 in the colour “washed black button fly”
Fabric: 77% cotton, 17% modal, 2% elastane & 4% polyester
Sizing: True to size. Stick with your usual size.

You know me, I’m all about my basics with a twist. And these button-fly exposed jeans are that in a nutshell. All the classic elements of a skinny jean – with good stretch, I might add – and that statement exposed button closure.

If I’m wearing a faded black skinny, 9 times out of 10 it’s these. They’re extremely comfortable, and great for just lolling about in. This is made from Everlane’s Authentic Stretch Denim. It’s thick and “gutsy” (as they put it), but has unbelievable movement to it.

I take my usual size 26 in these, and wear the ankle leg length. Not mentioned above, but I really appreciate the different inseam options – for petite, average or tall heights.

One thing that always surprises me with the authentic stretch jeans is how well the fit holds up. They don’t stretch out at all, but also don’t feel restrictive. And of course, they wash well too. Mine are definitely up there as one of my most worn pairs of jeans.

Also comes in a regular button and zip fly option too.

Everlane A Line Denim Short
Everlane A Line Denim Short Review

Everlane A-Line Denim Short

I’m wearing: a size 25 in the colour “powder blue”
Fabric: 100% organic cotton
Sizing: Runs large. Size down one.

I’ve already done a whole post talking about just how *good* these denim shorts are. The fit is just chef’s kiss. Snatched in at the waist, with a nice wide opening through the leg. I especially like having that extra room through the leg with a rigid denim, as it means that you don’t have to worry about them cutting into your thigh when you sit down (been there, done that, and it’s not cute).

I find this style runs slightly large, and would recommend sizing down or if you’re in between sizes, going with the smaller of the two.

They also have a nice high rise, which makes these a great option to wear with a crop (if it’s hot), or with your bikini and a shirt worn open on a seaside trek, without feeling like you’re baring too much skin.

I love these so much that I have them in both the “powder blue” and the “medium indigo”. Both are great classic options for summer that you really can’t go wrong with.

And that concludes this Everlane Denim Guide. I hope you found this useful, especially if you had your eye on a pair of Everlane jeans. If you have any other questions at all, please let me know in the comments section below! X
