RUBY ‘Mr Destiny’

This past weekend I was lucky enough to be able to borrow some of my favourite pieces from RUBY’s current collection, entitled Mr Destiny, to shoot for the blog (Thank you Anna-lise and Tomoko!). Somehow I managed to quickly whittle away more than an hour agonising over which pieces I loved the most, and it’s not hard to see why. The entire collection is youthful, playful and ultra-feminine, boasting more than just a few pastels and saccharine looking prints, and of course my all-time favourites, leopard print and stripes.

Alexander Wang singlet, RUBY ‘cupid’ trousers, RUBY ‘pretty thing’ purse, Valentino patent rockstud heels

Perhaps the first thing that I was drawn to at RUBY were these gorgeous black geometric printed pants, with their sleek yet masculine silhouette. I can imagine these looking incredibly gamine with a thin slouchy knit sweater and some tan lace up brogues. As for the bag, it wasn’t until I was just about to leave RUBY that I spotted these cute purses out of the corner of my eye. In three different colours, and three different textures, I couldn’t help but be smitten with them all – the supple leather in the grey as pictured, the peach toned calf hair, and the black suede – each equally covetable.

RUBY ‘pretty thing’ sheer blouse, RUBY ‘cupid’ shorts, RUBY ‘pretty thing’ purse, Givenchy sequin heels

Having spent the last month thinking that my achilles heel at RUBY would be the peachy leopard print bustiers, in the flesh it was actually the shorts in the grey that got me. And of course, by the time I decided to buy them, they were completely sold out in my size – just my luck – proves that with fashion you often have to be in quick. The ‘pretty thing’ blouse is exactly that, with floaty sleeves and a ruffled collar, a subtle elegance that could easily be dressed up or down. It also comes in a couple of those sweet pastel prints I mentioned, if you’re looking for something a little more fun.

RUBY ‘care bear’ angora knit jumper, RUBY ‘liberty’ jeans, Givenchy sequin heels

I’ve been loving the fact that RUBY have built on their denim this season, reworking the cut to what is pretty much the perfect skinny leg jean, done in blush and mint pastel toned geometric prints, or for those of you who are partial to something slightly more subtle, a black or white stardust print. The fluffy and fuzzy angora knit sweaters have to be the warmest thing I have ever tried on – perfect for if you are a Wellingtonian like myself. The longer jumpers with cut out backs provide a backdrop for endless layering opportunities, or some unexpected peek-a-boo moments.

LIAM silk cropped tank, RUBY ‘valerie pleat’ skirt, RUBY ‘pretty thing’ purse, Charlotte Olympia kitty flats

RUBY’s sister label, LIAM, is minimal and effortless elegance down to a T. What I am loving about these LIAM silk cropped tanks is that they invoke such a clean cut aesthetic, something that only adds to their desire (and from what I have heard, these tanks have been selling like hotcakes). Plus, they’re the perfect thing to throw over the ‘valerie’ pleated skirt (which is seriously like liquid graphite), quite naturally creating a look that almost passes for a layered dress.

All these pieces are currently in store, and I’ve gone to the trouble to add in all the links for you. Oh, and the best part? They ship internationally! x

I love the Ruby Cupid trousers on you. I love all the looks but particularly like this one as it’s a little different from the norm and I like the clean print on it. And I can see them working perfectly with your alternative outfit choice of thin knit and brogues. A perfectly simple statement outfit.

Jamie-Lee, you’re incredibly creative and good at putting together outfits that always look fresh and stylish. I remember seeing Ruby years before I left NZ but I think they were fairly small at the time. Your shoe collection is INCREDIBLE!! I couldn’t help ogling all your shoes.
