Organic Basics – Shopping Ethically and Sustainably

I’m pretty quick to admit that my consumption is typically higher than the average person. I’ve been sharing my outfits online since I was 18 years old, and I’ve often felt that the purpose of this is not only to provide a little bit of inspiration and share different ways to style outfits, but to also narrow down the best wardrobe staples out there right now, and share new brands that I think are worth investing in. But, I have been making steps to shop with intention, to try and reduce my emotional shopping sprees (which we all know I’m prone to), and to try and shop more sustainably where I can, which is where marketplaces like eBay or The Real Real truly come into play for me. Given I tend to invest a little more in my wardrobe than most, it’s also pretty important to me that these wardrobe purchases are going to stand the test of time.

But just as important as the clothing that we wear, is what we wear underneath. Which is where Organic Basics comes in.

What is Organic Basics?

If you aren’t familiar with the brand yet, Organic Basics is a Danish label that was founded in 2015 by four friends with a passion for sustainable and conscious fashion. They were driven by the pursuit of a sustainable fashion model; one that meant creating quality and long-lasting basics that you would still be reaching for ten years from now.

And that focus is on each stage of the manufacturing process; from using GOTS certified cotton produced in Turkey, to ensuring that waste water is minimised, and the packaging is recyclable and bio-degradable, it’s a 360 approach to a sustainable supply model.

Quality & Thoughts

I’ve spoken previously that well-fitting undergarments are one of the secrets to making your outfits look good, something I think is often overlooked. Generally, I tend to opt for an underwire soft cut bra – something that feels ‘barely there’ – so I was pretty intrigued when the team at Organic Basics reached out and asked if I’d like to put some of the classic styles to the test, most notably, I was excited to try their 100% organic cotton triangle bra. Cut in a traditional bra style, it has adjustable straps, and three hook and eye closure options at the back, with darted cups. I would usually wear a 34 band size, and either a B or C depending on the brand, so I decided to go for the size small in this style, which turned out to be the perfect fit. There’s a really excellent size chart available on the site which I recommend referring to before determining which option is best for you.

Quality-wise, it’s fabricated from 95% organic cotton, and 5% elastane, which means that it’s breathable and has a bit of stretch to it. It’s double lined, which gives it a nice, thick feel, and I found the bra to be cut superbly well – it holds you in, while flattering the natural contours of your figure. And, it’s comfortable enough to sleep in – something I know can’t be said about any of my bras with underwire in them!

The organic cotton tees and underwear from Organic Basics are made with the same long fibre cotton, which feels great on the skin. It is prone to picking up fur from my lovely little rag doll cat, so if that’s a concern for you, I’d recommend checking out their basics in nude and ivory instead of black (#catladyproblems).

Have you had a chance to check out Organic Basics yet, and if so, what did you think?

Great brand but note that all of their orders ship from Denmark which means that even if you’re browsing and shopping on their US site additional taxes and duties would still be applied after your order ships. That applies to all countries outside of the EU.
