Yesterday’s outfit was inspired largely by Jess Molina. I’d spotted a very similar look on her Instagram last week, and loved the juxtaposition of wearing casual elements with more glam pieces; both in texture, and in silhouette. So, I set about to recreate the look using items I’d included in my capsule.

I wore my Everlane alpaca knit sweater (again); this time taking that style cue from Jess and wearing it untucked. In truth, this is something I seldom do. My hips are my widest point, and given this is where most sweaters cut off, it’s often rather unflattering. What I think made it work in this instance, is the loose, straight cut of the sweater. The ribbing doesn’t cinch in like others I own, allowing for this more carefree silhouette.

For the skirt, I wore a midi I have from Marle which added that special touch. The silk feels incredibly luxurious, and I love the contrasting white silk stripe with the raw edged hem. It adds a little flounce to the silhouette, and the bias cut skims around the contours of the body in a really beautiful way.

Normally, I’d opt to wear something like this with a pointed toe flat, or a low heel. But I liked how Jess wore hers with chunky trainers so decided to do the same. This gave the outfit more of a casual edge – perfect for a quiet Monday at home with our wee boy.
