Outfit: 30X30 Capsule Day 14

Joseph roll neck sweater review
Joseph roll neck sweater review

Two weeks in and almost at the halfway point, I’ve gone for a classic combo I always love wearing. My Joseph knit sweater, paired with faded black skinny jeans a two-tone pumps. I wore a similar iteration around a month ago, and clearly am not stranger to repeating outfits (or combinations) that I love.

Wearing Joseph knit sweater (similar alternative); Uniqlo tee (worn underneath); Zara jeans (old but love these as an alternative); Vaneli two-tone pumps; Polene number one nano bag*

I wore this for my first trip into the city in over five months for an appointment and to run a few errands. It’s a little bizarre reflecting on how at the start of this year, I’d chatted with my husband about regularly visiting him in the city for lunch breaks together. The pandemic definitely changed all that. With a young son I hadn’t really felt any pull to take the risk to go in sooner. And with numbers of COVID cases creeping up in our state, we made sure to take every precaution and get in and out as quickly as possible.

One of the things I always felt conflicted about with a capsule wardrobe, was how it encourages wearing your favourites over and over again. This being, that you get to wear the items you love frequently (yay!); but on the flip side, they’re likely to look worn faster (boo!). It’s part of the reason I put so much emphasis on finding good quality pieces – no matter the price point – which will hold up with frequent wear.

The Joseph sweater I’m wearing above, which is one of my absolute favourite staples in my closet, is a good example of this. It’s made from natural fibres, has a classic design that doesn’t date, but most importantly? It’s been well made. The wear and tear has been absolutely minimal. I’ve barely even needed to use a de-piller to get rid of any nubby bits.

2020 has definitely been about going back to basics for me. Looking for those high quality wardrobe essentials which I can mix and match time over. The ones that feel great to wear, and despite their simplicity, don’t ever seem boring. It’s been a little challenging for me to jot down all my thoughts on these topics as I’m constantly being distracted by an almost five month old, but hopefully these streams of consciousness give a little insight into where my head is at from a style perspective.

Finishing off my outfit with some other relative favourites. Faded black slim-fitting jeans, always. My two-tone pumps which I can’t help but reach for weekly. And a small top handle bag from Polene which is just the right size for all my essentials.
