A Relaxed Weekend Morning Routine

If I had to describe myself, perhaps one of the first things I’d say is that I’m a morning person. Even on the weekend, I’m usually awake by 7.00am, and thinking about how I’m going to make the most of the day ahead. I often like to joke that I’m an active relaxer, but on those weeks when I feel like I’m practically living for the weekend, I like to take full advantage of those 48 hours of peace, before going back to the daily grind. So, I thought I’d share simple steps I take for a relaxed weekend morning routine…

1. Forget the alarm

On any given weekday (and usually public holidays when I forget…), my alarm goes off at 6.00am. I’ll usually press snooze once or twice, but I’m always up early to squeeze in a little bit of work for my online space, before heading into the office. Weekends are an opportunity to forget the alarm, and savour those additional zzzz’s.

2. It all starts with coffee

I wouldn’t say I’m the kind of person who needs a coffee to function, but I do love the ritual of starting my morning with a coffee. During the summer time, I go for iced with a bit of maple syrup for sweetness, and once the weather starts to cool down, I like a black coffee with a splash of almond milk.

3. Breakfast in bed

Aside from having a good lie in, there’s nothing really much more relaxing than enjoying breakfast in bed (especially if it’s been prepared by your other half!). I like to go for something that’s easy to prepare and doesn’t involve too much fuss, whether that’s avocado on toast or a loaded bowl of crunchy muesli, coconut yoghurt and fruit. A second coffee is optional.

4. Morning walk

We have a three-year-old English Staffy, so Luke and I like to get him outdoors as much as we possibly can. A dog park is pretty close by to our home, so we’ll often drop down there so that he can let loose some of his energy.

5. Skincare

I might be up early most weekdays to work on blog posts, edit photos or work on a video, but I don’t tend to use much of that time to get myself ready – or go through all the steps of my skincare routine. Nine times out of ten, I’m usually in a scramble just to get myself out of the door on time. So on the weekend, I like to take a slow approach when getting ready, and take a little bit more time to focus on my skincare routine. My skin type is a bit of an oxymoron; it’s oily but dehydrated at the same time, so my skincare routine focuses on intensely hydrating moisturisers and serums. Lately I’ve been loving the moisture surge line from Clinique – the overnight mask is one of my favourites, and I’ve recently added their new 72-hour auto replenishing hydrator into the mix too as I adore the lightweight gel formulation.

6. Read

My favourite thing to do when I’m in desperate need of a break – or just want to chill out – is to sit down and read. I’ve got a few books on my bookshelf that I’ve been working my way through, and I’ve also recently discovered Unconditional Magazine. I love the opportunity to relax and really immerse myself in a new read – it’s also a great way to get some inspiration! As I’m a big tea drinker, I’ll usually jump at the opportunity to brew up a pot to enjoy while I’m taking a little time out. This tea pot from Maxwell&Williams is a pretty good size for me, and I’m pretty smitten with the pink colour (sorry Luke!). As for tea, I absolutely adore the range from Storm & India; it’s a little more on the pricey side, but it’s totally worth it – trust me.
