Sezane Fall 2019 October Picks

Sezane Fall 2019 October Top Picks

I’m not sure if it’s been the less than stellar Spring weather this past week, but once again I’ve found myself scrolling through Sezane’s new Fall release.

After umm-ing and ahh-ing on a few pieces from their September drop, I bit the bullet on a handful of purchases. Of the five pieces I selected, I ended up keeping just two; the Chuck sweater (which is not itchy at all despite the mohair content), and one of their organic cotton tees. I wanted to put my money where my mouth was and get a real sense of how Sezane knitwear ages. I might not love the blended synthetic content, but I appreciate it helps to reduce itchiness and can also play a part in the structural integrity of a garment.

I’d actually also ordered a couple of merino wool pieces, but the styles didn’t work for my body type, which is why I chose to return them. One thing I will say is that Sezane’s merino wool is lovely. The Janice dress was very thick and weighty, while the Alceste jumper was delicate, soft, and warm.

While I still had a few misses – one of the pitfalls of online shopping – it served as a reminder that you shouldn’t always judge something on first impressions. The lesson I learned? Choose wisely. Consider fabrics, colour choices and cuts carefully especially if you have to bear the cost of returns. It can be a costly mistake!

This time around I’m not planning on making a purchase, but I wanted to highlight my five favourites from the extended Fall collection that I think are worth taking a look at.

Sezane Fall 2019 October - James Coat

01 | the James Coat

My absolute pick of the bunch is this gorgeous, double breasted shawl collar coat. It comes in a few colours, but the light grey Prince of Wales check was the one that particularly caught my eye. The cut and fit of this reminds me a lot of my Stella McCartney Edith coat, but at a friendlier price point. I also love the seam detail that hits at the waist, representing where the pockets lie. It might “disrupt” the natural flow of the silhouettes (if we’re talking clean lines here), but I think it’s an added detail that makes it feel a bit more special.

I’ve always liked a collarless shirt. As someone who is quite narrow across the shoulders, I’ve found that this opens up the neckline and feels less “heavy” than a traditional oxford. The cornflower blue is a great basic – a nice alternative to white – and the tortoiseshell buttons are a surprising touch. The other details I liked were the seam details at the front. It almost has a bit of a “bib” effect; the cinched in sleeves – a common recurrence for Sezane tops; and the dipped hemline. This is the kind of shirt that would be great both worn tucked or loose, and for the office or the weekend. Bonus points for being made from 100% organic cotton.

Now this isn’t exactly part of the new Fall drop, but I wanted to share it anyway. Most of the knitwear you’ll find on the site have some form of polyamide, and this is one of the few that is 100% merino. Based on my prior experience, I’d guess that this is soft, lightweight, and perfect for the transitional season or as a base layering piece as it gets colder. The cut is fairly basic, but the buttons at the neckline elevate it. I feel like you could wear them done up or loose dependent on styling. My fave is the camel – of course. Perfect if you’re into your neutrals like I am right now, but it comes in a few other good base colours, plus a tomato-hued red.

My next pick will probably feel a little out of the box for me. It’s ultra-feminine; a full sheer lace blouse with ruffle collar and cuffs. But it feels heavily reminiscent of the Lover blouses I used to lust after in my late teens (but couldn’t even nearly afford). Nostalgia gets me every single time. You’d definitely need to wear a nude bra or a camisole under this to protect your modesty, but I think this would work so nicely paired with leather trousers, or even a fitted mini skirt and some OTK boots.

05 | the Serena Jumper

My final favourite from the new Sezane Fall drop is the Serena Jumper. The cut is simple, and it looks super snuggly and oversized. Basically what I seem to look for in knitwear these days. The cable knit detail down the centre of the sweater and the puff sleeves have a whimsical look. It’s details like that which I focus on when after basics with a twist. It looks airy, but on closer inspection seems to be quite a chunky style. One thing to note is that this is a blended fabric, meaning it has some acrylic and polyamide blended in with the super kid mohair. I’ve had mixed experiences now with Sezane knitwear, but taking a peek at the close ups it doesn’t look to be the type that would itch or shed, if you’re thinking of giving it a go.

So those are my picks from the Sezane Fall October 2019 drop. I’d love to know if you are planning on buying anything, and also how you’ve found shopping from the brand in the comments below.
