Sezane Leontine Jumper review

I was a little taken aback by how many DM’s I received when I shared on Instagram that I’d managed to get my hands on the Sezane Leontine Jumper. This was one of those elevated basics which had sat on my wishlist for 30 days, by which point, it was completely sold out. I’d saved it to my bookmarks and my Shoptagr in the hopes of nabbing one during a restock to no avail. So I was pretty thrilled when I spotted that it was being re-released as part of their late Summer collection.

Wearing Sezane Leontine Jumper (size S); Levi’s wedgie straight jeans; Celine trotteur bag

Given it seems to currently be available in most sizes, I thought I’d share a review of the Sezane Leontine Jumper, for anyone like me who’d their eye on it.

SIZING & FIT

I’m currently a very true Australian size 8, or the equivalent of a small in standard sizing. Lately, I’ve had a propensity to gravitate towards oversized silhouettes, so felt a little torn between getting my true size (for a relaxed fit), or going up a size (for a roomier fit). In the end, I settled with the size small, which you can see on me above.

The jumper has a boxy fit across the chest, and length-wise it hits me just below the hip. Keep in mind I do carry a bit more of my height in my torso.

QUALITY & DETAILS

Perhaps the detail I was most drawn to, were the blouson sleeves, which nip in at the wrist. I love that exaggerated effect, and it’s one of the elements that made the Sezane Leontine Jumper feel special. Additionally, the functional placket at the front – drawing inspiration from a typical henley top – is a fun touch. I prefer to wear these unbuttoned either half, or the whole way.

From a quality perspective, it’s well finished, and the stripes line up not just at the sides, but where the sleeves connect with the body of the sweater too. The fabric has a slight “raw” feel to the touch; it’s not rough, but it’s not super soft either. It’s got a slightly ropey element to the handfeel which is pleasant and doesn’t feel irritating against my skin. There’s a nice stretch to the cotton knit too. On the site, the jumper is listed as 100% cotton, however the strip backing behind the placket is polyester.

Finally, I love that like a typical marinere, the stripes start at chest level, rather than at the shoulder.

On wear and tear? It washes well. I’ve popped mine in a delicates bag on a cold hand wash setting, and it comes out like new.

OTHER COMMENTS

I mentioned this on Instagram, but one thing I’ve found increasingly off-putting about recent Sezane orders, is that the box (and items within them) have arrived heavily fragranced. My understanding is that this is Sezane’s signature scent. Safe to say that for me? It’s not the one.

Perhaps the only other thing worth mentioning is styling. For an item that on paper sounds like such a simple piece to style, I’ve found it a little tricky. I prefer to tuck most sweaters that nip in at the hemline; for me, it looks a lot cleaner. Plus, it allows me to control which part of my torso I highlight (dependant on what I wear on my lower half, of course!).

Worn with a straight leg jean (which emphasises the width of my hips), I can look a little too broad. My only real option denim-wise is a skinny jean (thought I think it would also look fab with flares!). It’s highlighted to me how much more of a transitional style staple this is; it looks great with high waisted shorts, and little mini skirts. I find that little flare out at the hem, hitting mid-thigh, really balance out the boxy silhouette of the Sezane Leontine Jumper, and the blouson sleeves.

I hope that this little mini review is helpful for anyone who has had their eye on this sweater! If you have any other questions about the Sezane Leontine Jumper, let me know in the comments section below.

Thank you for sharing!! I too have had this on my list since earlier this year & of course it kept selling out.
I’m disappointed to hear that it is polyester, as the 100% cotton was one of the main factors if I decided to treat myself. I’m so glad I found your post & saved myself the $$ for something else.

Looks fantastic on you though 🙂

Very helpful review. I got mine in the mail and I think the cut is quite cute (perfect amount of puff in the sleeves). Love that it’s cotton but I was a bit disappointed the fabric wasn’t softer. I actually found it a bit scratchy. Did you find it was softer after you washed it?

I’m interested in this sweater, but currently sold out. Debating on sizing since I’m only 5’1″ 110lb 34c not sure xs or small. I have wide broad shoulders and a short torso too so don’t want to look messy or frumpy. Thanks

I think go with the XS with your height – won’t be too boxy! x
