Spring 30X30: Outfits Days 11-15

Spring 30X30 Capsule Wardrobe
Black wrap top with denim shorts minimal spring outfit

I feel a little like I’m on countdown now that I’ve made it past the halfway point of my spring capsule. Where I felt fulfilled by my winter capsule, I’m finding myself a little frustrated and stuck with my spring capsule. Lifestyle and the weather are definitely playing a role here. One of the things that drove me to revisit capsule wardrobes in the first place was to get a better sense for where my personal style was going. I’d been dressing for cool weather for months at that point; half the work was already done.

As strange as this is going to sound, I feel like the warmer weather has taken me a little by surprise. Mostly, with how quickly its heated up. It’s left little room to continue to experiment with transitional dressing, and I’m beginning to see (already) how easy it is to feel like you’re stuck in a style rut on those hot days. Essentially what I’m trying to say is that I’m having a bit of trouble getting a grip on my spring and summer style story. Getting inspired by street style is usually a key part of that journey, and I’ve had little time to actually indulge in that piece of the puzzle.

Anyways, let’s get into the outfits.

day eleven

Witchery wrap top; Yan13 denim shorts; Jane Debster slides; Everlane studio bag; Rosefield watch; Ana Luisa bracelet

I was so excited to finally pull this top out and wear it. I bought it late in 2019, with the intention of it being a great option to wear as a nursing mum. I had also been drawn to the fact that it’s 100% linen – one of my favourite fabrics to wear during the warmer months. For its first outing as part of my spring capsule, I paired with it with my cut off denim shorts, and tan slide sandals. It has a tie at the waist, which I knotted in a bow at my hip and left untucked.

day twelve

Everlane alpaca cardigan; Assembly Label linen trousers; Jane Debster slides; Everlane Studio bag; Missoma necklace

I did a little switcheroo on day 12, subbing in this cute alpaca cardigan from Everlane, in place of this heavier mohair one from Alessandra Cashmere. This is one of those items which is pretty versatile; worn buttoned all the way up it looks like a jumper. Leave the top two buttons undone and it almost looks like a v-neck. Or… wear it completely unbuttoned like a traditional cardigan. I paired it with my black linen trousers, as it had a bit of a monochromatic feel, then to add some warmth, I went for those Jane Debster slides again.

Madewell Camp shorts and Birkenstock sandals

day thirteen

C/Orca black tank; Madewell shorts; Birkenstock sandals; Everlane studio bag; Ana Luisa earrings

With all these “additions” and switches, I get the feeling a final look at all 30 items (if I end up wearing that many pieces) will be due at the end of the month. Because it’s been so warm, I felt like there was a real need for a simple, sleeveless tank. I opted for this black cotton version as it goes with everything. Plus I like the oversized armholes. This time I wore it with my Madewell shorts and Birkenstock sandals, and it felt very reminiscent of the kinds of summer outfits I used to wear pre-baby. Unfussy, and pretty simple.

day fourteen

Arket cream tee (not visible); Arket denim shorts; Uniqlo men’s cashmere sweater; Gucci loafers; Everlane studio bag; Mejuri necklace

The transitional months are the best time of year in my opinion. I love that juxtaposition you get when blending core staples from opposite seasons, so took the opportunity to do so on day 14 as it was a little cooler with this sweater and denim short combo. I layered a simple cream tee underneath (in case it got too hot), and casually tucked in this men’s cashmere sweater from Uniqlo. Personally, I’m a big fan of shopping the men’s section for tailoring (typically shirts) and knitwear. It’s a gold mine, and you can get that effortless, relaxed look which I’ve really been into of late. To complete the outfit, I went for my Gucci loafers. I’m still on a mission to reduce the cost per wear on these as much as possible before summer hits, so have been wearing them every chance I get.

Isabel Marant Etoile roan mini skirt

day fifteen

Witchery black wrap top; Isabel Marant Etoile skirt; Jane Debster slides; Celine trotteur bag; Missoma bracelet; Ana Luisa bracelet; Fedoma necklace

The 15th of the month marked our wedding anniversary, so I wanted to wear something feminine and that I felt good in. Naturally, I found myself drawn to two favourites; my linen wrap top, and cotton canvas ruffle hem skirt. Worn together, they almost have the effect of looking like a dress. The skirt is such a dark charcoal-toned navy, that it comes off looking black in most photos. The result wasn’t intentional, but I really liked how it came off. Had I felt the need to include more shoes as part of my capsule, I probably would have taken the opportunity to wear something with a pointed toe. Instead, I reached for my tan slide sandals. The birks felt a little too heavy, and the loafers a little too masculine. Overall, I loved how this turned out, and it ended up being the perfect outfit for a day spent with my two favourite boys.
