The past week feels like it’s flown by in the blink of an eye. Working freelance, no two days ever look *quite* the same, and a recent influx of projects has been keeping me very busy. Clearly, trying to manage my work-life balance is still something I’m trying to figure out, but putting boundaries in place – like wrapping up the day at 6.00pm, and working less on weekends – has definitely helped.

Wearing Joseph rollneck sweater (affordable here), Grana skinny jeans (old but love these as an alternative), Kindersalmon coat, Linea Paolo slingback flats, Phillip Lim mini pashli bag, Mejuri pearl drop earrings

So I thought today rather than sharing style advice, I’d just talk through one of the outfits I’ve been wearing lately. It’s a mix of my favourite things; a cosy roll neck sweater, high-rise skinny jeans, slingback flats and a duster coat. Four style staples that my winter wardrobe wouldn’t feel complete without.

You’ve heard me wax lyrical about this Joseph sweater before, and my love for it is yet to fade. I don’t often splurge on knitwear, instead opting for brands with a more palatable price point, but this has turned out to be a total gem. Despite being 100% wool, it’s silky soft against my skin, and the ribbed detail truly is something special.

Usually with an outfit like this, I’d opt for my Dr Denims. I love the faded black hue as it’s softer than a true black, and they just go with everything. I’ve mentioned previously that I had those ones tailored to fit, and the closest I’ve come to the cut and silhouette are these skinnies from Grana. If you’re after a stretch denim that ages well, and feels super comfortable when worn, then this is it. It’s an older style from the brand but there are a few sizes left as part of their sale, so worth checking out as they’ll set you back less than $50.

My winter coat game went up a few notches this year, and this oatmeal-hued duster style from Kindersalmon has shaped up to be my favourite. The lighter hue does mean that it’s a little more high maintenance than a darker coat option, but it’s been a total game changer in stretching the limits of my winter style. Wellingtonians will probably agree with me that all black is our winter uniform of choice – something I’ve found difficult to shake, even after more than five years in Sydney. This coat has helped me to switch things up, and rely a little more on my winter whites. There’s less of a contrast, and I find the long length elevates my outfit and makes it feel more put together.

Finally let’s touch on the shoes. I’ve mentioned these before in a video on designer shoe dupes, but I wanted to put my money where my mouth was and put these to the test. Given I’d splurged on the Dior ‘j’adior’ slingback flats in black a few months back, I went for these in a nude hue, which I thought would be great to double up as a super leg lengthener. And they definitely do the trick. I like that they’re all leather; it makes the bow detail on the side appear more subtle, and they have a real premium feel to them, without the price tag. My only complaint is that I do find the right strap slips off my heel regularly. I have a feeling it’s due to them being a bit snug, so hoping that’ll loosen up with wear and stop being an issue. Will definitely keep you posted though!

I still find it funny to reflect on the state of my wardrobe five years ago. Mostly heels and no flats, large boxy coats, and just a couple pairs of jeans. Oh, and chunky sweaters were basically non-existent in my closet. Would love to know how your style has changed in recent years, or if you’re one of the lucky ones that hasn’t edited a thing! x
