Items I own on sale (Black Friday 2020)

All Saints balfern leather jacket clothing review & Other Stories oversized wool blazer clothing review

Black Friday has officially kicked off, and like last year, I thought it might be helpful to reflect on some of the classic wardrobe staple I own, which are currently on sale. Rather than go ham, I’ve created a mindset of shopping intentionally, sticking to a list, and not buying just because something’s on sale. So let’s get into it.

CLOTHING

All Saints Balfern leather jacket | I mentioned this one last year but it’s worth revisiting. Every year All Saints have an incredible Black Friday sale, with 30% off store wide, which is the perfect opportunity to snap up one of their iconic leather jackets. The quality is right up there, and they wear in beautifully. The Balfern style is a snug fit (gives half a size), so if you want to wear chunky knits with it I’d recommend sizing up.

& Other Stories wool blazer | Okay so I haven’t had a chance to properly wear this one, but hear me out. This is worth the investment. And it’s 25% off! I dragged my feet on buying this for so long, and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The quality surpassed all my expectations. Thick textured wool, beautiful lining, a nice fit. It’s designed to be intentionally oversized, but does run large. I sized down to the 34 and am glad I did.

Petal and Pup clothing review

J.Crew cashmere v-neck sweater | I have been wanting to buy one of these cashmere sweaters for years. I finally caved, and am so glad I did. It’s every bit as lush as it looks. I got mine in a medium, but the fit is relaxed as it is so I’d recommend sticking with your usual size; the neckline can be a little on the large side otherwise.

Marle ribbed midi dress | Probably one of my favourite 2020 purchases so far, I had to share that this midi dress is currently 30% off. It’s a wool, cashmere, silk mix, so feels really luxurious. The cut is incredibly flattering too – hugs you in all the right places. I got this in a size S.

Aje denim mini skirt | Another more recent purchase, I bought this a-line mini as an alternative to another faded black denim skirt I have from ASOS. My body’s changed a lot post-partum, so finding styles which feel me, suit my lifestyle, and my “new” figure have been top of mind. I LOVE this one. A-line silhouettes are universally flattering, and the quality is incredible. Super thick denim, and the frayed edge hem adds a fun detail.

Petal & Pup beige sweater | You all know what a sucker I am for knitwear, and this one ticks all the boxes for me. Huge oversized blouson sleeves, slightly cropped boxy fit, and made from 100% cotton. I sized up to an AU10 though you don’t have to.

Kindersalmon wool coat clothing review Madewell courier shirt clothing review

Kindersalmon wool coat | If I lost my entire wardrobe in a fire, the first coat I’d replace? This one from Kindersalmon. It’s such a stand out piece in my eyes. The subtle herringbone on the exterior facing wool adds depth, and I love how this contrasts with the slightly deeper taupe hue from the lining. The fit is great too. It’s one size, but doesn’t feel overly “large”. One of those things I always feel amazing in, and to me it has a much more expensive look. It’s currently 28% off!

Madewell courier shirt | One of my favourite summer wardrobe essentials is hands down this shirt from Madewell. So I was thrilled when I spotted it was in their Black Friday sale – it’s such a no brainer! I bought mine 4.5 years ago, and reach for it every year. The fit is super relaxed; I have the size XS and as you’ll see, I’ve got plenty of room. I’m typically a size S so would recommend sizing down one size. The quality is fantastic too; a nice textured cotton with a good weight too it.

Toteme standard jeans | Admittedly I’ve not quite had the chance to wear these as much as I’d thought… yet, but I thought I could share my experience to save any of you from making the same mistake. These are an expensive jean, but the quality is amazing so I totally understand the hype. The fit is lovely too, however they have little to no stretch. I got these in my pre-baby size (a 25) and boy are they snug. They fit on the smaller end of the spectrum, so if you are in between sizes I’d recommend going with the larger of the two options. As far as I’m aware, the fabric doesn’t give.

Bec & Bridge ribbed tank | The final clothing piece I thought I’d mention is this ribbed stretch tank I bought from Bec & Bridge for my spring wardrobe. I love the rich warm colour, and I feel like it’s one of those easy basics which are great to dress up, or dress down. Currently 20% off – and it also comes in a dress version too which is super versatile – can be worn as a top, dress or skirt depending on how you style it!

Ateliers Auguste Monceau Crossbody bag review

BAGS

Ateliers Auguste satchel | I absolutely love the minimal and clean design of this handbag. It’s a smooth calf leather, and the interior pocket is a decent size – I can fit a lot of my essentials in there! One thing to keep in mind is that the leather is prone to marking up, but I think with bags like this that’s all part of the charm. It’s currently 15% off.

Sam Edelman loraine loafer review
Oliver Cabell dream flat review

SHOES

Oliver Cabell dream flats | A good ballerina flat is a Parisian style essential, and we all know how much I try to incorporate French style elements into my outfits. If you’re on the hunt for a pair, I can’t recommend the dream flat from Oliver Cabell enough. These have a rubber sole (great for walking, good grip!), a cushion at the heel (no blisters – yay!), and the pebbled leather is both practical and comfortable. I’ve worn mine walking loads and haven’t gotten a single blister, and found they swiftly molded to the shape of my foot. I wear an EU40 and find they fit TTS.

Birkenstock EVA Arizona slides | I’ve completely jumped on the ugly dad sandal trend, and it all kicked off when I finally caved and bought a pair of Birkenstock’s. I went with the EVA style, which doubles up nicely as a pool/beach slide. I got my usual size which fit great. One thing to note? Because the material these are made from is quite stiff, they do tend to get uncomfortable across the top of the foot with extended wear. I’d recommend buying the suede ones for ultimate comfort.

Sam Edelman loraine loafers | If you’re looking for a good dupe for the Gucci loafers, these are the ones I’d recommend. They’re comfortable straight off the bat (you may find you get a bit of pressure across the foot initially if you have wide feet though). And I think they just look chic. I’ve worn my black pair so many times, and despite finally investing in the luxury version, I still reach for these often. I wear them in the US9. You can get them 20% off at Shopbop on orders over $200.

Boden raffia sandals | Cute flat summer sandals are something I struggle to find, but I was smitten the second I spotted these. And, they’re every bit as good as I’d anticipated. The strap comes around the back of the heel which is much more flattering that those that cut across the foot. Plus, I love the combination of the raffia paired with the suede. It’s unexpected, and adds depth to the shoe. Also helps that they are incredibly comfortable – no break in period necessary. They fit TTS, I got my usual EU40.

Missoma jewellery

JEWELLERY & ACCESSORIES

Missoma marina chain necklace | I’ve got quite a few pieces from Missoma now – I tend to use Black Friday as an opportunity to add to my growing collection. It’s among some of the best more affordable jewellery pieces I own. A favourite of mine is the marina collection. Super weighty and thick, and a real statement. They have 25% off sitewide.

Linjer jewellery | I also wanted to mention Linjer. I’ve been wearing quite a few pieces from the brand lately, and am just smitten. They have up to 60% off a huge range of items right now, so worth taking a peek as their jewellery is not only sustainably made using recycled gold and silver, but it’s also affordable – prices start at $24.
