It’s not often that I purchase something and wonder how I managed to get by without it. Things like my iPad, which I use almost religiously for reading, or quinoa, an ingredient which is now a component in approximately 70% of all dishes I cook (no joke), and more recently, a pair of leather leggings that seem to be the perfect antidote against the cold (for my legs at least) that winter brings with it.
My reluctance to purchase these in the past was magnified by the lack of availability in Wellington, and the rather hefty price tag which accompanies them, rendering them an unlikely candidate for any experimental online shopping. Of course time generally does have a way of breaking down such barriers, perhaps as much so as a generous discount.
More so than I imagined, they pair just as effortlessly with a pair of flats and an oversized sweater as they do with a silk blouse and heels, the subtle sheen and texture of the leather adding a dimension which cannot be achieved by a pair of black skinny jeans. If I were to make the purchase all over again, there’s little I would change other than upgrading to a pair of leather pants – ideally J Brand – as there’s a strong appeal in the fit and how closely they seem to emulate a pair of jeans.
I already predict that these are going to become a real workhorse over the winter months, if the past few weeks are anything to go by; worn for the most part with ridiculously soft angora knit jumpers, paper thin t-shirts, and silk blouses.
