Rather impatiently, I’ve been waiting for the lookbook of Karen Walker’s AW 13 collection to show up on her website, and was pleasantly surprised to find a preview pop up on none other than Oystermag. While not the full lookbook, it gives a great little peek into what’s to come, and I’m anticipating I will once again find it difficult to whittle down my wishlist.
Karen drew inspiration from the futuristic optimism of the 1950’s, which is evident in the abundance of galactic prints and out of this world metallic pieces. Staying true to the brand’s aesthetic, the collection is quirky yet bordering on saccharine at times, mixing feminine styles amongst the tomboy-ish pant suits that Karen does so well in punchy colours and unique prints. The ever-popular sweatshirting Runaway pieces are still around, with space rocks and glitter panels. What’s more, is that Karen’s brought back the cone shaped hat from one of my favourite collections, Believers.
In particular, I’m looking forward to the white polka dot print suiting, and navy galactic everything, two things I think will fit right in with my current wardrobe. I also can’t wait to see how the rest of the collection translates for the Southern Hemisphere, as there are always a few surprises. Oh, and those shoes, those gorgeous shoes. Bring on February!
