Halfway there

home decor dining table ghost chairs industrial seating

After what has felt like – and literally has been – months, we’ve finally started to make some traction on decorating our home, if only with the basics. I tracked down and purchased the industrial cafe-style chairs for our dining table, found a thick white (!!) leaner mirror for our living room, and we’ve narrowed down our preferred coffee table to just two options…

I have to admit, we’re tracking pretty well given we lost all of our furniture to a fire when we moved to Sydney early last year; and in a sense, it’s been refreshing to live with so much space (and so little furniture to tidy around!). Perhaps the only uphill battle I’m currently facing, is getting Luke to come around to the idea of having some blush-hued pillows in our living room; that and trying to convince him that going to IKEA on a Friday night isn’t completely crazy!

Will you do a little video tour? I didn’t realise you had a fire. That’s terrible. We finally bought a new home (we’d already sold …) and I’m so excited to decorate. My husband has said no ikea furniture – he doesn’t care how much more it costs – flat no to ikea. It’s put me in a bit of a spin for some items … There is a budget after all.

Yes I will! I just need to figure out if a walk through where I talk through the entire place is better, or if I do a section at the front with the tour to follow (no talking). Feel free to let me know which you’d prefer!

We don’t have much IKEA, just the odd thing. We’re grabbing one of those cubby bookshelves just as for us it’s the easiest option to go against one of our walls

Tough call, I can see the benefits both ways. I think a walk through while talking would be my preference

Thanks for the feedback! Based on my most recent video it sounds like that’s what everyone is keen on so it’ll be coming up before the end of the year, I promise!!

Oh no about the fire last year!

I’m also in the process of adding furniture to an apartment (we moved from a studio to a one bedroom, so there’s room for quite a few additions). For the most part, we’re just getting things from IKEA.

Yeah it definitely wasn’t the best but what can you do right?! 🙂

We got a couple of things from IKEA and the rest I think we’ll mostly get from Freedom and West Elm – I’m a sucker for their reclaimed wood pieces.

It must have been tough to lose all your possessions. I look forward to your home tour in whatever form you chose to show us. Buy the best furniture you can afford as the cheap stuff rarely goes the distance in appearance or durability.

Thanks Deb – I’m aiming to have it up before the year is up so it’s coming soon, I promise! We’ve got a bit of a mix in our place – I tend to be selective about what we get from IKEA although it’s always tempting as it’s about a 10 minute drive from our place.
