2018 Mid Year Sale Picks and What I Bought

This year has been all about shopping smart; buying a house and diving head first into renovations has meant that my wardrobe has taken a bit of a back seat (not that it really needed much work…). So, I made a little bit of a rule to only buy things on sale, while also implementing the 30-day rule. I’m a serial browser, and I think you all know that stress often gets the better of me, so having a few mechanisms in place to reinforce my desire to shop for intention has been a big focus, especially as making our house a home has become much more of a priority for us. Mid-year and end-of-year sales tend to be a weakness of mine, so I took the opportunity to snap up a couple of items that I’d been eying up, that I thought would perfectly complement my existing wardrobe. I also thought I’d take the opportunity to share a round up of my sale picks – essentially what I’d be looking at splurging on, if my wardrobe wasn’t already overflowing, and I wasn’t saving up for a new bathroom…

What I Bought

I have to blame Lizzy Hadfield for this first purchase; a pair of gingham slingbacks from Mansur Gavriel (also on sale here and in red here). Clearly, I wasn’t put off by her remarks that they were dreadfully uncomfortable – I absolutely adored the classic design, and the woven gingham print is incredibly special, and is really what sealed the deal for me. I snapped these up from Net-a-Porter (make sure to check out my N-A-P sale picks below) for 30% off, which seemed like a pretty good price for me, given I was seriously considering breaking all my rules and pulling the trigger on them at full price. Quick caveat, they certainly haven’t been comfortable straight out of the box; the fabric and leather strap combination at the heel is a lot stiffer than I’d anticipated, but I’ve been wearing these in around the house and have noticed that the straps are slowly starting to soften. These are more of a Spring/Summer shoe for me so I think they’ll be just right by the time I’m ready to take them out for a proper spin.

My next stop was J. Crew. I’ve been a huge fan of the brand for years, and I feel like it’s a great place to check out if you’re looking for something that feels smart, but has a touch of whimsy. I went for two classic style pieces: a cotton/linen blazer in a dark chambray, and a pair of black linen bermuda shorts. Clearly, I’m anticipating the end of Sydney’s (very) short winter, and I figured that the two would be great paired together, but versatile enough to go with at least 10 other outfits in my wardrobe. I’m actually most excited by the bermuda shorts; the longer length really appeals to me for something that’s a little smarter, and I think these will look cute paired with my linen collarless shirt from Everlane, and a low block heel.

My final sale purchase were a pair of Bed to Brunch pyjamas in a floral tropical print from Nordstrom. I gave my pyjama drawer a pretty good cull before we moved into our new home, and I had been looking for a pair of pjs that would make me feel really good, but that were also a little bit fun. These fit the bill nicely. I like the fact that the pyjama bottoms have pockets at the hip (this doesn’t seem very common), and the neckline of the shirt cuts a little lower than other classic pyjama styles I’ve tried.

Below I’ve compiled some of (what I think are) the best sale picks across my favourite stores. I’d love to know if you’re thinking of taking advantage of the mid-year sale to amp up your wardrobe a little bit – let me know in the comments section! x

As soon as I saw this post I thought OH NO does she know Lizzie thought they were uncomfy? haha! We are clearly both diehard Lizzie fans. Glad to hear you’re persisting and finding they’re softening because oh my they are sooo cute and will look amazing with white/pastels in Spring.
