Weekly Wishlist: Madewell New in (Jan ’22)

It’s been a while since I last shared a weekly wishlist. And given I’ll be doing more window shopping than not over the next six months (more details about my low buy HERE), I thought it’d be a nice way to continue to share “new in” pieces that have caught my eye.

Every now and then I’ll have a little nosy at Madewell’s new arrivals, and I spotted quite a few gems which to me feel both classic, but a little special at the same time. The above image is full shoppable too, FYI! So let’s chat through my top five favourites…

01 | Space Dyed Canton Pullover Sweater

It’s pretty safe to say that I have enough basic, block colour sweaters to last me a lifetime. Things my own closet is lacking? Knits that have a bit more colour woven through them. Like this space-dyed knit. The fabric is a cotton, acrylic, wool mix, and I was happy to see that it’s part of their “do well” line; made using organically sourced cotton. Aside from the vintage “dyed” effect, I was also drawn to the silhouette. Relaxed through the body, a thick rib trim at the collar, and a slight bell sleeve. This would make a great option if you’re looking to add some colour into your wardrobe in a subtle yet intentional way.

02 | Drawstring Mini Slip Skirt in Night Stars

One of the key things I look for when adding to my closet is versatility. Does an item work across multiple seasons? For different occasions or social situations? If the answer is yes, and it fits the boundaries of my personal style, I just know it’s going to be a workhorse in my closet. This drawstring slip skirt is one of those kinds of items. I love the length; perfect for summer, but easily transitioned into autumn and winter with some opaque tights and boots. I have one of Madewell’s slip skirts in my closet, and the fit is lovely, plus it’s just so easy to style. And I do love a good polka dot or star print. Sweet but timeless.

03 | Lightestspun Cover-Up Maxi Shirtdress

From the imagery alone, this shirt dress isn’t much to look at. But, it’s versatile as heck. Clearly one that would be perfect for our “sunny” Sydney weather, or as a buy now wear later piece if you’re in a colder climate. Again, another one from their “do well” line; it’s a double layered cotton-gauze, which I can tell you now is a dream to wear when it’s hot out. This could be a beach cover up, worn as a house dress, sleeves rolled up, a belt added at the waist, worn open over some cotton trousers and a tank. Or even layered underneath some chunky knitwear. Basically, a style you can easily have a lot of fun with.

04 | Stitched-Texture Denim Jacket

This quilted stitched jacket caught my eye for a few reasons. Firstly, the colour. A deep inky blue with a slight teal undertone. Love. Second, it’s collarless, making it a great layering piece under coats, or even to drape the collar of a shirt over. The third reason is more personal or specific; it reminds me of a jacket I had years ago and adored. Also, the patch pockets at the waist are cute too.

05 | Luxe Long-Sleeve Tee in Casler Stripe

Ending with a pure wardrobe basic, the Breton striped tee. A few things I liked about this top? The 3/4 length sleeves, relaxed fit, dropped shoulder and boat-style neckline. It comes in quite a few colours too, though the black and biscuit is probably my personal favourite. Best part is that you can be sure this is an item that won’t go out of style… ever

Love your picks! But I’m on a low buy too, so will just add some of these to my wish list for now.
