What I’d buy from the Shopbop Big Event Sale

Shopbop’s seasonal ‘Big Event’ sale has just kicked off, which means that there’s four days to nab up to 25% off all items labeled ’Key Style’ using the code EVENT19. While I’d usually use the opportunity to snap up a coveted wishlist piece, I’ve been sticking to my 5PFW Challenge goals, so I’ll be sitting this one out.

That didn’t stop me from browsing though, and I thought it might be fun to share the ten pieces I’d love to add to my wardrobe from the sale (if money were no object and I wasn’t limiting my seasonal purchases, that is…).

The polka-dotted piece

It’s no secret how much I love a good polka-dot print, and I thought this lovely tiered dress from Paper London was an incredibly whimsical take; perfect for a special event. The tie detail on the shoulders is a playful touch – practical, too – and despite its billowy nature, I feel like the knee-length hem looks quite flattering.

The tailored shorts

One of my favourite wardrobe additions for the year to date is a nice pair of tailored shorts, so these are now top of my list of wardrobe staples to search for. I spotted this white belted pair, which I thought made for a cute option. They’re a cotton denim, however the tailored silhouette stops these from feeling too casual. If you’re on the hunt for a more formal option, then I would recommend these ones which I have from Phillip Lim, that are also included in the sale.

The slide sandals

We’re slowly slipping into cold weather territory in Sydney, but the summer baby in me is still on the lookout for warm weather wardrobe staples. These slide sandals from Madewell immediately caught my eye. I love the warm honey caramel hue, and the small leather straps across the foot have a rope-like effect, which I think is a nice switch up to the usual mule sandal style.

The slip dress

My wardrobe is all about versatility. Even when working in corporate, I would purchase new clothing items based on how much mileage I’d get out of them. And there are few better workhorses than the slip dress. This midnight navy iteration feels a little slinkier and sexier than the one I have from Grana, but it still looks just as versatile. If you’re in need of ideas on how to style a slip dress, I shared 20 different options in this video here.

The statement earring

Most of my jewellery stash is made up of fine and minimal styles, but recently I’ve found myself drawn to bolder and bigger shapes. Pearls in particular have been a huge trend this past season, which don’t seem to let up anytime soon. I particularly liked this pair from Lizzie Fortunato. While they’re on the smaller end of the spectrum, the mismatched design is a statement-maker in itself.

The oversized blouse

I very nearly bought this blouse during Shopbop’s last sale. Ulla Johnson is one of those brands that I’ve been itching to try for years now. Her designers are playful and vibrant, and while they might not seem like a natural fit with my neutral wardrobe, I’m completely smitten. I really love the pairing of a loose collarless blouse with some skinny fit jeans, and this one is so loud it speaks for itself. The ruffle detailing on the sleeves is a particular favourite of mine.

The strappy sandals

Shoes are probably my biggest indulgence, and these 90s-inspired strappy sandals definitely had be at hello. I’ve been filling my wardrobe with warm neutral tones, and have a feeling if I wasn’t being so discerning about what I bought, I’d promptly be snapping these ones up. I especially love the conical wooden beaded heel.

The skinny jean

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair of skinny jeans, and a brand that has never let me down is J Brand. Their photo ready jeans in particular are a nice lightweight denim, with a good amount of stretch to them. I bought a pair of these years ago in the black, but I think the inky blue is a gorgeous option too.

The midi skirt

As I’ve gotten older my hemlines for the most part, have gotten a little bit longer. These days, I feel much more at home in a midi skirt than a midi. This one from Equipment caught my eye. It’s one of those elevated basics I talk about a lot. Simple silhouette, but a twist with the floral print.

The oversized blazer

My final pick would be an oversized blazer. While checked blazers seem to have faded from popularity – at least on the trend scale – I still think that they’re utterly timeless and a good staple to have in your closet. This one from Ganni is an update from your classic grey check, as the undertone is more of a muted mustard hue.

As much as I love to do a little window shopping, as I mentioned earlier, I’ll be sitting the sale out this time around. Why? Well, I’m not in need of anything new, and ultimately, I’m actually enjoying the process of slowly adding seasonal key pieces to my wardrobe. My biggest tip if you are planning on placing an order? Only buy what you need and what you’d be willing to purchase at full price. If you do end up buying anything, I’d love to know what you got in the comments section below xx

Use the code EVENT19 to get 20% off orders under $500 USD and 25% off orders over $500 USD from Shopbop. The sale ends 12 April.

I have been marking the shopbop sales for the last few years as you do to save on items on my wishlist – mostly from one of my favorite brands – Vince. This time I splurged on the ‘Fairley’ Slide Sandals in the light tan color – I have several pairs of sandals from Vince and they are always super comfortable and just that little bit different

I remember when they used to be few and far between – maybe twice a year? – and even though they’re more frequent now, I still get excited when I see those emails pop into my inbox, especially if there’s something pricey I’ve been eyeing up. I really love Vince – I’ve had a few pieces from the brand and have been so impressed with the quality. Not tried the shoes yet but will be keeping them on my radar in future now for sure 🙂 Hope you enjoy your purchase! x

Ugh. I love your picks so much. I’m on a shopping ban so I too am sitting out the sale.

Thank you Sarah! Good luck with your shopping ban – that’s definitely a good reason to be sitting it out this time 🙂
