Why I’m trialling the capsule wardrobe method again

These photos were taken a couple months’ ago now, but as I sit here in a cosy knit and mini skirt, it seemed only fitting. A reflection of Sydney’s mild winters. And also, the monochromatic style strategy I’ve been using to get dressed daily.

Wearing Assembly Label sweater; J.Crew denim skirt (similar here); Everlane 40 hour flats; Polene number one nano bag (review here); Muru Jewellery necklaces; Reliquia earrings; Rosefield watch

If you’ve been watching my week in outfits videos, then you’ll have picked up on two things. First, monochrome head-to-toe is a style hack I’ve been leaning on heavily postpartum. Being woken up five times (or more) every night has left my brain feeling a little like mashed potato (it’s any wonder I can still string a coherent sentence together at the moment…!), so any tricks that epitomise truly effortless dressing have been helping to keep me feeling like myself. This extends to tonal looks like this one, anchoring blush tones with a neutral white skirt.

Second, I’m quite big on outfit repeating right now. I’ve always felt that if you love an outfit, you should wear it over, and over, and over again. Juggling work with caring for a four-month-old baby has been nothing short of a challenge, so removing the act of deciding what to wear – from a closet stuffed full of clothes, no less – has helped free up a bit of brain space.

It’s actually what’s driven me to look at utilising the capsule wardrobe method again. Reducing my options so that I can spend less time wondering what to wear. I’ve always stipulated that less is more, but a side effect of my work has meant that I’ve found myself with more wardrobe options than I know what to do with.

I’m not quite ready to dive into a seasonal capsule, so thought I’d start with a 30X30, beginning this Wednesday. Given I’ve been wearing a lot of the same items on repeat, I thought this would formalise that process a little. I’ll be kicking off the 30X30 challenge by sharing a look at the items I chose, and I thought it might be a fun exercise to take daily outfit photos and update you on what I’m wearing (and how it’s going).

I’m so excited for this! I don’t personally use a capsule wardrobe, but I do love doing the occasional 10X10 or 30X30 challenge when I’m feeling uninspired by my clothes. Can’t wait to see what you come up with, and I’m looking forward to daily updates!
