Happy Sunday! I hope that you’ve all been having a great weekend so far. Luke and I have been busy putting the finishing touches on our master bedroom; after three weeks of slowly chipping away at it, we’ve managed to strip back layers of paint, wallpaper and exterior paint, sand down the walls, prime them and paint them a crisp white, which has left our bedroom looking very fresh. Safe to say, our house is slowly starting to feel more and more like a home. But… to the outfit. I wanted to share what has essentially become a winter weekend uniform for me; an oversized sweater, a pair of skinny jeans, classic pumps and a snuggly coat.

Wearing Everlane stripe cashmere sweater (alternative here), RE/Done skinny jeans (on sale here), Stella McCartney coat (also here and it’s available in camel too), Charlotte Olympia shoes (old but these are a gorgeous alternative), Isabel Marant belt, Cuyana tote bag (similar), Gold hoop earrings

For me, simplicity is the key to so many of my outfits, which has been even more pronounced the last couple of weeks given half my wardrobe has been stashed away either in a suitcase or one of the many unmarked boxes currently lining the wall of our sunroom. I wore this outfit last weekend as we were wrapping up the move from our rental property. Winter has well and truly hit here in Sydney (if you can call 16 deg C cold, that is), and my favourite way to dress is in simple layers, especially when it comes to my weekend uniform. So… lets get into the details of this look.

STYLING NOTES

01 | Three colour rule
It’s by no means revolutionary – and there is always the exception to the rule – but I find that one of the keys to a great outfit is to abide by the ‘three-colour’ rule. Simply put, your outfit is based around three colours, and no more. I’ve opted for blue/denim, cream and black (well, okay… I cheated a little with the dark grey stripe on my top..) – one of the simplest colour combos of them all!

02 | The investment coat
My wardrobe is a mix of high and low, trend-driven pieces and classic wardrobe workhorses. This is probably going to be the most cliche thing I’ve ever written on my blog… my like Rome, my closet wasn’t built in a day, and I’ve been adding to it bit by bit over the years. The most recent serious investment purchase that I’ve made is this navy wool pea coat from Stella McCartney (also available here). This was a major splurge, even though I managed to snap it up for about 75% off RRP from The Real Real. While it’s a classic silhouette, it doesn’t lack drama. It’s massively oversized, which I love as the front panels wrap right across the body and camouflage the toasty pockets at the hips. Plus, it’s heavyweight with thick lining, and the tailoring is impeccable. To put it plainly, it’s everything that I could really ask for in a winter coat.

03 | Frayed hem skinny jeans
I know that distressed denim isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I am partial to a frayed hem; given my outfits tend to sway on the simple end of the spectrum, it adds a bit of ‘edge’ plus it’s an often unexpected detail to a more tailored look. This pair from RE/Done (available here on sale) are by far my favourite pair of jeans in my wardrobe at the minute. The mid blue wash is absolutely spot on, the button fly gives them a vintage feel, and the fit is superb – they run true to size for reference. I’ve been reaching for denim a lot more frequently – yes, that means through the week for days at the office too – and these are generally at the top of my list. They pair well with everything, so it’s a no brainer that they’re still my denim of choice and make up a huge part of my weekend uniform during my ‘down’ days.

Aw thank you! I feel like I got really lucky with it. It’s such a simple combo right? But I can’t stop reaching for it! x
