What to wear for the races

Zimmermann floral rosebud dress, Givenchy sequin heels (similar here and I also love these), Mimco fascinator (I love this one!), Lulu Guinness clutch, ASOS earrings

Given that we’re smack bang in the middle of the Spring Racing season, it’s probably pretty safe to say that I’m a little bit late to the game. But, if I’m being completely honest, the closest I’ve been to the track in recent years is in front of a big screen at the local pub, hoping that the trifecta I just bet a tenner on is going to come through (it pretty much never does…).

Unless you managed to avoid opening Instagram – or Snapchat – all day yesterday, then no doubt you would have seen all the ladies slammed up in black or white for Derby Day. There’s still another three races on the Spring social calendar; Melbourne Cup on 1 November (think bold and bright – I colour blocked in pink and cherry a couple years back), Oaks Day on 3 November (which is all about floaty feminine silhouettes and pastels) and finally, Stakes Day on 5 November (which has the most relaxed vibe of the four races).

For me, the races are all about wearing something that makes me feel good (check), that’s fun to twirl in (check), topped off with a sweet fascinator fit for the day (double check). I’ll typically always opt for a fancy clutch – the races are an excuse to get dolled up, and it helps from distracting too much from your overall look.

I’ll be keeping things fun and flirty this year with a floral embroidered mini dress from Zimmermann that’s just perfect for twirling around in, a pearl and crystal embellished fascinator, and some cocktail-hour approved sequinned heels.

I’ve pulled together some of my favourite spring racing looks which you can shop below! x

Hi Jamie-Lee, just watched your YouTube video of bags you’ve sold and was wondering if you could please tell me the place in Sydney that repaired your Celine trio?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Hana

Hi Hana, I went to a leather repair some in Chifley Square. It’s up one or two levels by the food court. They were very good there and I noticed when I went in that they seem to repair a LOT of designer goods so I’d highly recommend. They were affordable and very quick too!

Not sure this will be quite comfortable without a jacket for our great day in Melbourne tomorrow as it won’t be warm or necessarily dry. After years of going to Cup day, I think a block heel or even a wedge works better for all day and on any grass at Flemington. Melbournians know to have outfit A and outfit B planned to cover the weather variables. Spring Carnival is awesome and so classy, so have a great time and hope you back a winner.
