April Beauty Edit 2019

Over on my YouTube channel, I’ll be sharing a video every day for the month of May, so I wanted to get on the front foot with my April Beauty Edit. As with my March Beauty Edit, I’ve found myself digging back into my makeup stash, relying mostly on old favourites, with a few newbies thrown in for good measure.

The Makeup Edit

it Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream (also here) | If there was one product I was definitely going to talk about this month, it’s this. I’ve been dying to try the it Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream for the better part of two years now, but every time I went to Sephora, it was always completely sold out. I was lucky enough to finally get my hands on this at a recent event from it Cosmetics, and I’ve not stopped using it since. This is a total winner, and one that completely deserves the hype. Despite being labelled a ‘CC Cream’, this is a full coverage foundation. It has a lightweight, mousse-like texture, and a satin-matte finish on the skin. I like to wear this over the top of a super-moisturising base (this Marc Jacobs Primer comes to mind). The wear time is really great, and I love how natural it leaves my skin looking. One to add to your basket if you haven’t tried it out yet for sure.

it Cosmetics Superhero Mascara | Another it Cosmetics product I’ve been trying this month is their Superhero Mascara. I’ve mentioned time and again how fussy I am with mascaras. They should add volume, length, and not flake or smudge on my brow bone. This doesn’t quite do all of that, but I l-o-v-e the way it makes my lashes look. It feels a bit like I’ve popped on some falsies, without the hassle. That being said, it’s worth keeping in mind that I find the product does flake when being applied (I leave this to dry before swiping it away) with its fibre bristle wand, and I do get a bit of smudging on my brow bone after a few hours. Essentially two things I’m willing to forgive given how great this mascara makes my lashes look.

Pretty Vulgar Faux Reals Mascara | I’ve had two new mascaras on the go for me this month, the second being the ‘Faux Reals’ Mascara from Pretty Vulgar. This has a big fluffy natural fibre bristle wand. This doesn’t quite give me the same glam look as the Superhero Mascara, but it adds some great volume, and doesn’t smudge on my brow bone as much. And it helps that there’s no product fall out on application either.

Urban Decay Beached Bronzer | I first shared this bronzer in a full face of Urban Decay makeup a few months back, and shortly after, I retired it to my beauty drawers. I recently decided to switch this one back into regular rotation, and was swiftly reminded of why I loved it so much. It’s matte, has great pigmentation, and blends out smoothly. Ten out of ten.

Becca Lipstick Love in ‘Cupid’s Kiss’ (also here) | As I’ve gotten older I’ve found myself gravitating to a mere handful of lipstick products, so it’s not often I find a new one that I actually want to wear every day. This lipstick from Becca however, has snagged a spot in my regular beauty rotation. The shade ‘Cupid’s Kiss’ is a lovely peachy, brown-toned nude, which I find works really well with my complexion. Coincidentally, it also happens to be the kind of colour my mum used to wear religiously – she was obviously on to a good thing. The formula is moisturising, creamy, and feels so comfortable on the lips. A major keeper in my books.

it Cosmetics Brow Power (also here) | Brows are one of those very personal things. We each have our way, and stick to what we know – at least, that rings true for me. My ride or die is the Benefit Gimme Brow which I love as it adds a bit of extra pigment where I need it, without looking OTT. Basically, I go in with a light hand, and I prefer to use brow gels over pencils for that reason. While I love the intent behind the Brow Power, I have to admit that it’s not my favourite. It’s billed as a universal brow product; there’s just one shade which is suited for blondes and brunettes based on the pressure you apply when drawing in each hair. This isn’t a very creamy product, so in order to get the colour payoff I needed, I had to press down quite hard, which felt a little bit uncomfortable. When on, it looked great, but if I had to choose, it’s my Gimme Brow any day of the week.

The Skincare Edit

Bybi Beauty Mega Mist (also here and here)| My skin is combination/oily, but it’s intensely dehydrated so give me anything with hyaluronic acid in it, and my complexion will drink it right up. So, I was pretty excited to try the Bybi Mega Mist as not only is it 100% natural, vegan and cruelty free, but it’s also free from essential oils so perfect if you have sensitive skin. Oh, and the packaging is aesthetic #goals… That all being said, this truly is a gem of a facial mist. I’ve noticed that since I have started using this, my skin feels like it’s retaining more moisture than before. I’m getting less dry dry patches, and I love the botanical scent. My only complaint? It’s too small! I’ve literally been bathing my face in this so am running through it much quicker than I’d like.

Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask (also here)| This is one of those old favourites, that I recently put back into rotation after finishing up my last night cream. This is great if you are a dry or dehydrated skin sufferer – it backs a lot of punch and leaves my complexion feeling juicy and nourished. I apply a generous layer before bed, and if my skin is ever feeling a tad dry in the morning, I’ll use a smaller amount of this as my day moisturiser.

Olay Total Effects Whip | It’s been a bit of a mission of mine to use up any products I have open, unless they aren’t working for me. So after trialling this for a few weeks back in January, I put it on the back burner while I made my way through my already open moisturiser. I’ve talked about this before but the texture of the Olay Whip moisturisers is unlike any other. It has a light, airy texture that melts into a water-like consistency when worked into your skin. It feels really nourishing and again, one of those products that helps to lock in moisture.

Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque (also here)| I’ve had a few more breakouts than usual over the last month – which I’m putting down to more chocolate than usual – so this has been a real workhorse for me. This is a clay-based masque which dries down and draws any impurities from your complexion. I’ve been reaching for this when the flare ups have been particularly bad, and notice that this really helps to calm down any red spots and also speed up the healing time.

Mademoiselle by Rochas EDP (also here) | I was lucky enough to attend the launch for the new Mademoiselle fragrance last month, and get a bit more insight into the making of the scent. If you aren’t familiar with Rochas perfumes, they tend to be quite bold and powerful. Mademoiselle by contrast is slightly softer, while still feeling youthful and feminine. Top notes include blackcurrant and candied apple, with base notes of ambergris, sandalwood and Chantilly musk. This is a lovely option for day to day during the warmer months, while the ‘Couture’ scent is slightly richer and deeper, which feels more suited to the evening.

Jo Malone Orange Blossoms Hair Mist (also here) | Jo Malone is one of those brands which never seems to disappoint, and this gorgeous hair mist has been no exception. I’ll admit, it feels a little indulgent to have a mist exclusively to use for my locks, though I think this could double as an EDP if you wanted… And a little goes a long way. One spritz is usually enough, though I do like to do a second one just so that the scent lingers a little more as the sweet orange blossom is pretty divine. This is a limited edition launch for Mother’s Day, so if it is on your wishlist I’d snap one up sooner rather than later.

I always love reading your beauty edit posts! I noticed the Becca lipstick on your most recent video, and it truly suits you so well (I always immediately scroll down to your beauty notes to see what makeup you’re wearing!). Your description of the formula sounds right up my alley, I’ll have to give it a try!

Thanks Chelsey! I’m definitely a creature of habit and tend to wear the same thing day in day out (on my face, at least!) so it’s always nice to come across a new staple that I can rotate in. Definitely worth it for sure – I think the one I have might be part of the Khloe & Malika (?) collection? It’s such a nice dark/brown nude 🙂
