Urban Decay was one of the first brands I became familiar with when I started to really delve into the beauty world about five years ago (yes, I was very late to the scene); their Naked palettes were legendary, and I don’t think there was a single beauty or fashion blogger I followed who didn’t have at least one of these palettes tucked away in their vanity. And, I get the hype. One of the first eyeshadow palettes that I bought was the Naked 2 Palette – a little smokier and cooler toned than the Naked 1, but just as classic.

Recently I was kindly gifted a few new (to me) bits from Urban Decay, so I thought it might be fun to share a full face of UD makeup, and talk through my thoughts of each of the products. Let’s start with base.

Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Longer Liquid Foundation
A couple years back, I bought the Naked Skin Foundation from Urban Decay, and I feel like I was probably one of the few people who didn’t like it, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect with the All Nighter Foundation. But, I’m pretty open-minded, and am all for anything that is long-wearing, especially if it can withstand the Sydney heat. The All Nighter is a full coverage matte foundation, which has a satin skin-like finish when applied. I’ve used both a beauty blender and the Sigma 3DHD Kabuki brush to work this into my skin, and both achieve pretty flawless looking results, and you really only need one pump of product for your whole face; it’s pretty pigmented. The finish is really nice, and I think it wears particularly well under warm conditions (it gave me a nice soft glow), however I did find that this got a little cakey around my upper lip and my nose – areas where I’m susceptible to getting eczema and dermatitis. Because this is a ‘matte’ foundation, correct skin prep is a must, so I’d highly recommend using something very nourishing to prime your skin before you apply this foundation. I’m wearing shade 3.25 in the pics below, which is a touch to pale for me but I think it works once you’ve warmed up your skin with a bit of bronzer.

Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Full-Coverage Concealer
Now this product is full coverage, and I mean, full coverage. Despite the fact that I prefer a light, natural-looking base, this is probably one of my favourite products of the bunch. The formula is very thick, and a little goes a long way. I have been loving using this to brighten up my under eye area (I went for a light shade, Fair/Neutral) as it sets down very well, doesn’t budge, and doesn’t crease or cake up throughout the day.

Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Setting Powder
Previously I’ve exclusively used translucent setting powders, so this was a new product for me. I loved that the pigment added a little bit of extra coverage as it was great particularly at covering any lingering redness or purple undertones. Plus, it did what it promises; while I’ll get a bit of extra glow throughout the day, this keeps my skin looking matte. The formula is nice and smooth, and doesn’t look powdery on the skin, however if you are very fair, this is probably going to be too dark for you…

Urban Decay Beached Bronzer
These days I tend to use cream bronzer over powder – I’m all about getting that glow – but I’ve enjoyed mixing things up with Urban Decay’s Beached Bronzer (this is in the shade ‘Beached’). Like the setting powder, the formula is very smooth, and it has a nice warm tone to it that doesn’t look muddy on the skin. It’s very pigmented and a little goes a long way, so I find it’s best to build up application slowly. I’ll lightly brush a little bit of this across my cheeks and temple, until I’ve added a desirable amount of bronze-goodness to my complexion.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
I’ve been meaning to try out this cult eyeshadow primer for years now. I’ve been a loyalist to the NARS Pro-Prime Eyeshadow Base for so long, that I was excited to see how this stacked up to it, and I haven’t been disappointed. You apply the primer to your lids using a doe-foot applicator, and personally, I like the fact that the packaging is a soft tube – it means you know you’re going to get use out of every ounce of product in there. The formula is slightly tacky with a pale pink undertone to it, and dries down very quickly so it needs to be blended out well (I just use my fingers), otherwise it can look a little patchy on your eyelid. And once this has set, nothing you apply on top of it is going to budge. I haven’t had an eyeshadow primer in my stash for some time (I kept forgetting to pick one up…), so this has been a total lifesaver for me. I have oily eyelids, and sometimes I feel like all I have to do is just look at my eyeshadow and it’ll crease. Not with this primer – definitely lives up to the hype.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette
This is one of the latest eyeshadow launches from the brand, and there has been so much buzz about this palette. The beauty world went crazy for it, and I can understand why. The colours are really gorgeous; a good mix of matte and shimmer shades, in rich browns, terracotta and brick hues, and deep crimsons. I’ll admit, I don’t tend to wear anything this warm on my eyes. It doesn’t really work with my complexion, but I was still excited to play around with this palette. The formula of each powder lived up to my expectations. Richly pigmented, zero chalkiness, and highly blendable. I went for a mix of Ounce all across the lid as a base, Sayed and Low Blow mixed into my crease, Chaser blended in the outer corner as an additional base shade, Dirty Talk all over the lid, Cayenne layered into the crease, and Ashes on the outer corner.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
My signature makeup look generally includes a bit of winged eyeliner, but I wanted to do something different with this makeup. Instead, I opted to use the Eye Pencil in the shade Bourbon; a warm medium/dark brown with shimmery flecks through out. These eye pencils are very pigmented and easy to work with. The don’t drag on your eyelids, and the formula is easy enough to smoke or blend out using a small densely packed eyeshadow brush.

Urban Decay Peversion Mascara
I have a pretty tough time finding mascaras that work for me, and sometimes I feel a little like I’ve tried every mascara under the sun. Having heard the story behind the product development phase of the Peversion Mascara, I was pretty excited to give it a try. The wand has a natural fibre brush, which is big and bushy looking, and feels really nice working into your lashes. It adds a shed-load of length, giving that false-lash effect. The formula for this mascara is very wet, so if you have oily eyelids like me, this probably isn’t going to be the ‘one’ for you. Unfortunately as much as I loved what this did for my lashes, I couldn’t go an hour without this smudging on my brow bone.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick
The final step of this look was to add lipstick. The only UD lippie I have in my stash was a little too cool-toned for this makeup look, so I added a bit of eyeshadow in the centre to create a shimmer lip look (I layered Scorched over the lipstick – I love that powder lip finish!). The lipstick I’m wearing underneath is their Comfort Matte in the shade Backtalk, which is a beautiful cool-toned mauve-based pink. The formula is pretty creamy, but has a matte finish, and feels comfortable to wear on the lips.
