New in: Aje Kasbah Mini Dress

Aje Kasbah Sunset Stripe Ruched Bow Back Mini Dress

Ever get that inexplicable desire to buy something completely out of your usual style wheelhouse? Bingo. That was me the moment I cast eyes on this dress. I’m not sure if it’s the almost two years we’ve been in lockdown limbo, or just fatigue of neutrals (as much as I love them!), but colour has been exciting me in a big way. Every time I’ve visited the shops, I’ve been drawn to it; both soft sorbet hues and ultra neon brights. It’s far from my “usual” style, and I’ve admittedly found trying to separate my love and excitement for fashion, from what is practical and makes sense for me, my lifestyle and my existing wardrobe has felt like a bit of a battle.

I’m sure I’m not alone here. Separating the whims and desires of your fantasy self from your real self is an exercise in restraint. Especially when you consider that not all items you find yourself drawn to fall into that category. Sometimes, you fall in love with a piece which makes almost no sense. And despite knowing you might not wear it enough to maybe justify CPW, you still have that strong urge to add it to your closet. Some might call these your “statement” pieces; ones which are big energy, but easily anchored by the core building blocks of your existing closet.

Which was how this fun little mini dress ended up coming home with me. Even though it’s miles away from my usual neutrals. It was an emotional purchase; just trying it on filled me with joy, excitement for the piece (and to wear it!), even if it isn’t my typical style. And while the pragmatist in me wouldn’t usually give something like that a second look, I’ve been craving personality and fun. And this dress has it in spades.

Safe to say this won’t be an every day dress… but I did think one appropriate for our typically hot summers here in Sydney. When you want to wear as little clothing as possible. It’s easily dressed down with some slip on sandals, maybe even a chunky knit cardigan if it’s a little cool. And you barely have to go high with the heel to make it party ready. Maybe one to ring in the new year…

Love this dress! I bought this dress too bc of the same reason. What size are you wearing? I bought a AU 8 and hoping it will work but I normally wear size 0 … ugh. What is your measurement?

Hi Brit! I’m usually between an AU6-8 in Aje clothing and I got the AU6. Because of the way the top fastens at the bust, it’s pretty forgiving so I think even going up a size or two shouldn’t affect how it looks on you. You’ll also benefit from a bit of extra length (something I wish I had!)
