You’re probably already up-to-date with my recent outfits if you’re following me on Instagram. But I loved this simple spring look so much that I wanted to share it here, too. For me, the thing that really cinches it are the sandals. That sparkle, little bit of embellishment. Typically not a large part of my personal style repertoire, but it really helps to lift up and elevate this otherwise simple outfit. That, and the inclusion of texture through the bag.

Wearing Re/Done tee (size S); Witchery jeans (size AU8); Tibi sandals (size EU40/old but similar here); O My Bag bucket bag (10% off with MADEMOISELLE10); Mejuri necklace; Linjer petite watch

I don’t know how well it shows from the photos, but the shoes are actually a navy. Those delightful crystal clusters are ultimately what drew me to this style, but I also liked the thick flat sole with squared off toe. The unique strap design is also a plus. Given so many of my shoes are grounded with classic elements, these add some balance to my collection. And clearly, are an easy way to make an outfit feel more interesting.

Also worth noting are the jeans, which I’ve had for over two years now. They’ve come to be something of a staple in my closet. The straight leg, robust yet soft denim, and the wide (removable) karate style belt at the waist. I was thrilled to see that they’ve been re-released this year, and have been toying with adding the ecru pair to my closet as well. Though they also come in a blue wash, a faded black or creamy coloured jean is infinitely more wearable than a blue pair. I’m not sure if this is a result of my preference for tonal outfits, or because I spent so many years refining my colour palette.

Some other points about the outfit to touch on… You can see I’ve thought about texture. The bag being the key conduit here, but that’s also conveyed through the mixing of cotton, and denim. The variation helps to stop this outfit looking flat. Overall the silhouette has more of a “slim” appearance (compared to some of my other outfits); the t-shirt is cut quite close to the body, whereas the jeans help add some shape with their relaxed fit. Proportionately, I’ve followed the rule of thirds, utilising the high waist and thick belt of my jeans to really highlight that. And the shoes? Well, to me they’re a point of difference. A statement maker piece in what is an otherwise unremarkable outfit. To my eye, they really help to tie the entire look together.
