I’ve been lusting after a couple of bags from Staud for months now; namely, the Staud Moreau bag, which is a netted bucket bag with rounded leather handles, and the more streamlined Bissett bag, which is a structured bucket bag with a single handle. I don’t tend to take new bag purchases lightly, especially when I’m looking at splashing $500+ on a single item, so I’ve been taking the time to mull these ones over.

Wearing Stella McCartney sweater (similar option here), Everlane cheeky straight leg jeans, Charlotte Olympia suede pumps (similar), Seed Heritage crochet bucket bag (real thing here)

As you’ll know, I think that there’s a lot of value in trying out a designer dupe before investing in the real thing, so I was pretty chuffed when I spotted this incredible dupe for the Staud Moreau bag last week. As the more fashion forward option of the two, I couldn’t be certain that this wouldn’t be just a passing phase in my wardrobe – I like to invest more in pieces which I can see myself wearing 12 months, five years, or even a decade from now.

Unlike the original netted bucket bag from Staud, this more affordable option from Seed Heritage is made from faux leather, and is decidedly less structured. It’ll set you back less than $100, and given that it is very heavily inspired, so much so that I think on first look, you’d easily mistake it for the Staud Moreau bag, it’s the perfect alternative to the real thing if you’re hoping to get the designer look for less. After taking it for a bit of a spin over the weekend, I can already see this becoming a great option during the summer months; the rich caramel hue is perfect for spring/summer, and it pairs really effortlessly with the earthy tones which have been dominating my wardrobe as of late.

So I guess what I’m wondering is, what are your thoughts on this dupe for the Staud Moreau bag? Is it too heavily inspired for your taste, or do you think it’s a great gateway to test out the look before deciding if it’s worth your while to splurge on the real thing?

Oh my god I know right?! It’s basically a dead ringer for it! x

Nope, sorry, I can’t get behind a bag that is effectively copying someone else’s design. I’m well aware that most fashion is derivative, but I feel there is a difference between “design inspiration” or “trend interpretation”, and a direct copy and I think this Seed bag crosses that line.

Fair enough! I completely understand that and a lot of it comes down to personal preference and your own circumstances – I’d love to be in a position to just spring for the real thing, but given we’re about to do a full bathroom reno, most of our ‘disposable’ income has gone towards saving for that (plus a new deck for outside).
