With rain expected to fall over the next week or so, it’s not yet time to pack away the winter knits or put those coats into hibernation, no matter how many times you try to remind yourself it’s spring. My winter uniform consisted mostly of oversized wool sweaters paired with slim-fitting jeans and a cute pump – a style uniform of sorts, but I’m ready to mix things up (just) a little bit as we navigate our way to spring. So I thought I’d share one of my quick go-to looks for a relaxed, but put together transitional work outfit.

Wearing Everlane cashmere sweater (great luxe alternative), Zara trousers (I love these too), Charlotte Olympia pumps (these are a great dupe), Cuyana leather tote bag, Linjer petite watch, Mejuri earrings & necklace

To keep things simple (and chic!), I’ve gone for an all black look for this transitional work outfit. I love how effortless it is, plus it’s a quick way to throw together an outfit while looking like you’ve put the work in.

A smart-looking sweater

This time of year is the opportune time to start reaching for those lighter layers, and a lightweight wool sweater is a great option for day-to-day at the office, worn tucked into a pair of trousers or a high-waisted skirt. I’m wearing a little cashmere number which has a slightly shrunken fit, and isn’t too loose around the body. It’s woven using a donegal yarn, with complementary clubs in creams and greys which adds a level of dimension to the fabric.

A pair of tailored trousers

This transitional work outfit is centred around one key piece: the tailored trouser. I’ve got a couple pairs that I love wearing, which include these from Uniqlo, and this pinstripe pair from Halogen. Something high-waisted with a slightly cropped leg is a classic, and the kind of style staple you’ll be able to reach for in the years to come. My favourite little detail on this particular pair is the pintuck seams around the waist; it’s very subtle but it really sets these apart from any other trousers I own.

Some low-heeled pumps

Admittedly, I haven’t worn a pair of heels over 8cm high for the longest time; for me, its all about those low-heeled pumps. Anything with a pointed toe is instantly chic and elevates an outfit, while elongating the legs. My favourite pair are the ones I’m wearing above with the gold contrast heel, which are a jazzy little touch.

An everyday tote bag

The final piece of this effortless everyday transitional work outfit is a great tote bag. I’ve found myself reaching for the Cuyana structured tote for a few months now; it has a semi-structured design which stands tall when rested on the ground, but fits neatly around your body when being worn. The black pebbled leather is really elegant, but if you want something that might be suited to a corporate working environment, I’d recommend going for a smooth leather. Something like this tote from Everlane, or this designer option would be a great choice.
