So, if there’s one thing I don’t really need more of in my wardrobe, it’s shoes. But, when you’re a shoe-obsessed fiend who is offered the opportunity to trial a pair you’ve had your eye on, you don’t say no. The shoes in question are the Everlane Boss Loafer; a chic pointed toe flat made from a supple Italian leather.

Everlane’s boss boot just so happens to be one of my favourite options for the colder months, so I was pretty darn excited about this most recent iteration. And, I personally really like the fact that they’re a high quality dupe for these pointed toe loafers from Nicholas Kirkwood (also here). The Everlane design is more classic, and I really appreciate that the price point is more palatable – essentially, you’re getting your money’s worth. So let’s dive straight into the details…

QUICK FACTS

Price: $165 USD
Available in three colours: Black, Burgundy and Dark Taupe
Made in: Santa Maria a Monte, Italy
Fabric: 100% Italian Leather
Care: Spot clean with a cloth.

SIZE & QUALITY

SIZE: I recall that the Modern Point Loafer ran a half size small, however decided to throw caution to the wind and opt for my usual size, a US9.5 (I wear EU40 in designer shoes). I’m a little on the fence as to how they fit. On a cold day, they’re perfect, if not a little snug at the toes. On a mildly warm day or when my feet are a touch swollen, they feel far too small. I’ll have a better indicator of whether these fit true to size when the US10 arrives, however I presume that this is largely to do with the fact that Everlane shoes run narrow across the board.

FABRIC COMPOSITION: Like all of their shoes, the Everlane Boss Loafer is crafted from 100% Italian Leather. The pebbled leather has a grain to it that is very similar to the leather used on the boss loafers, which indicates that they’ll hold up well when worn and disguise any light scuffs or scratches. They’re fully lined with leather, and have a synthetic sole.

DETAILS: The Everlane Boss Loafer has a sharp pointed toe, a high vamp with cut outs at the sides, stitch seam detailing and a low heel. The pointed toe visually lengthens the legs (especially if worn with tights), and combined with the pebbled leather, it has a luxurious and smart appearance.

HOW I’D STYLE THE EVERLANE BOSS LOAFER

What I like most about this style is that it’s an elevated take on a flat shoe. The pointed toe and the high vamp are both really elegant, and the black pebbled leather has a really sleek appearance, which I think makes these a really suitable option to go from the office to the weekend.

For work, I’d style these with a tailored black trouser (I love these from Uniqlo), and a simple silk blouse, and for the weekend, I’d pare them back with some frayed hem jeans and a big oversized sweater.

FINAL VERDICT

The last few styles I’ve tried from Everlane have been a little hit or miss for me. I like classic silhouettes and I’m generally not looking for a modern twist when it comes to the design – though I won’t say no to a gold block heel or a little bit of embellishment. The boss loafer really hit the nail on the head when it comes to combining form and function.

I said this earlier, but the cut and the style of the shoe is incredibly reminiscent of the ‘Beya’ loafers from Nicholas Kirkwood (also here), minus the gold heel. And frankly, I actually think I prefer Everlane’s take. It’s simple, it’s elegant, and it’s subtle. Plus, it’s always a big win if you can find a design that is versatile enough to wear every single day, regardless of the activities you have ahead of you.

The leather is beautifully soft though retains some structure, something that will give with repeated wear as it softens mostly across the foot. But I’m still torn about sizing, something that tends to pop up again and again with any shoes from Everlane that are particularly narrow, as these are. My recommendation would be to size up half a size if you’ve got a medium to wide foot just to give yourself a bit of breathing room.

The final point I wanted to touch on is wear and tear. As with any pointed toe shoe, over time, the toe will inevitably get scuffed up, so will require some additional attention and care that isn’t needed for round-toed shoes. I find a trip to the cobbler usually resolves this, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you aren’t overly interested in keeping up with the maintenance of a pointed toe shoe.

Thanks for sharing your insights on this shoe! I ordered the mule version, and am a bit on the fence about keeping them. I really worry how they will break in, and if they will still look as sleek with the inevitable “crease” that occurs with normal wear.

Love this style and tempted to order them in the bone colour for Spring. Does the sizing run similar to the day heel? That’s the only Everlane shoe I have for comparison. Thanks!

These run half a size small so get half a size up from your day heels x
