Wearing all black & wide leg jeans

Witchery Slouch Jeans review

We all know how much I love a simple outfit, and in particular; effortless dressing. Not the kind of effortless that takes hours to meticulously plan out and execute. I mean the actual kind. Where you throw on an outfit and go. Which is why I always go back to that simple style hack: monochrome.

Wearing Everlane tank; Witchery jeans; Oliver Cabell flats; Fendi mama zucca bag; PORTRAIT sunglasses (use code “JAMIE” to donate 5% of your purchase to MSF); Linjer necklace (10% off jewellery with code “mademoiselle10”)

I’ve noticed that there’s a very distinct pattern in how I prepare my outfits each morning. I’ll settle on one piece I just have to wear, and work around that based on what I’m doing for the day and the weather. That focal piece for this outfit was the wide leg jeans. Not normally a style I’d go for, but I was curiously drawn to the cropped length, and the karate style belt. Those two details felt fun and like they’d add something fresh and different to my existing wardrobe.

Because the denim silhouette is a bit wider, I wanted to exaggerate that more so decided to pair them with a top that has a slim fit. This tank is one of my favourites as it’s a ribbed cotton and super soft. I also love the scoop neck, which is ideal for showing off pretty necklaces. Aside from the subtle ribbed texture, there’s no other bells or whistles to the top. It’s something of a blank canvas, which allows the jeans to be the focal piece in their own right.

I chose a bag that was unstructured and unfussy. It’s made from fabric, and flops in on itself. And unlike my other bags, it’s designed to be worn on the shoulder.

Normally I’d use this trick and dress head to toe in one colour. But when it’s all black, it can sometimes come off a little “cold”. So, to add warmth, I went for a caramel brown flat. While these are darker than my skin tone, I still feel like they have that leg-lengthening effect I’m often after to balance out my proportions. It helps that they’re one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I own. Seriously.

Definitely one I’ll be banking to “repeat” at a later date.
