If I learnt anything during our recent move, it’s that my wardrobe is bursting at the seams… just a little. And somehow, even though a Sydney winter truly only lasts a couple of months, I’ve managed to amass quite the collection of coats. I’ve been meaning to share a bit of a winter coat edit on the blog for some time now, so today I’m sharing a round up of some of my favourites from the high street to high end, across all my favourite styles for you below.

The peacoat
An absolute classic, this double breasted collared style is versatile, and it doesn’t date. Typically featuring wide lapels, this style is a little more relaxed so perfect for winter weekends worn with your favourite denim. I’ve been wanting to add a peacoat to my wardrobe for years, and finally pulled the trigger on a modern update on the style by Stella McCartney (also on sale!) earlier this year, which has become a real winter favourite of mine. Usually, these come in navy but I’ve spotted a couple of black and camel options which are equally as timeless.

The single breasted coat
Another timeless style, single breasted coats usually tend to have minimal design details and are the type of coat that transition well for both work and play. The one I have in my wardrobe used to belong to my mum – a huge part of the reason why I love wearing it – though I do also have my eye on this gorgeous option from Stella McCartney. Having invested in a winter coat from the brand earlier this year, I already know that the quality on it is next level.

The trench coat
Another great wardrobe staple, I don’t think a wardrobe is complete without a classic trench. In my closet, I’ve got a knee length waterproof trench from Everlane which comes out to play on those warmer winter days, and I also have a modern navy cropped version with oversized lapels from Karen Walker which I love pairing with denim or over a little white dress.

The robe or duster coat
If I had to identify the coat that’s been getting the most wear in my closet, it’s definitely been this robe style duster coat from Mute by JL. I love the almost ankle grazing length, and that it cinches in at the waist.

The parka or duffle coat
Granted, it doesn’t really get cold enough in Sydney to warrant a cosy parka or a duffle coat (complete with faux fur hood), but that hasn’t stopped me from stashing an oversized parka from Isabel Marant into the back of my closet. A girl’s gotta be prepared, right? Besides, now that I’ve completely acclimatised – the coats come out around 21 deg C – I figure that this will be a complete game changer during our next trip to New Zealand.

The statement coat
Finally, as minimal or ‘classic’ as my style typically is, I still love to have a little bit of fun with it, and one of my favourite items in my wardrobe is a vibrant pink winter coat from Karen Walker (in yellow here). I’ve picked out some of my favourite statement pieces, from bold hues to quirky prints, below.
