Autumn Style Uniform #2

I thought I’d kick of the week by diving into my second autumn style uniform; a slim-fitting tee + straight leg jeans + oversized blazer + pointed toe shoes. There’s a real sense of familiarity in wearing variations of what is essentially the same outfit, and it’s a fail-safe on days when you don’t feel like experimenting or trialling a new ‘look’.

Wearing Re/Done t-shirt, Everlane straight leg jeans (review here), Everlane linen blazer, Charlotte Olympia pumps (old but these are a great affordable dupe), Oroton bag, Isabel Marant belt, Linjer watch, Mejuri necklace, Thomas Sabo earrings

This is an outfit combination that combines a bit of old with new. The old are the straight leg jeans and pointed toe shoe pairing, something which I find softens the wider silhouette and makes it feel more wearable for me. The new is the oversized linen blazer; while I technically added this style to my closet last year, the transitional season has been my first real opportunity to incorporate it as part of any style uniform.

Like last week, I thought I’d run through each individual element, starting with…

the slim-fitting t-shirt

The hunt for the perfect tee always feels so far from over, but this lived in slim-fit version comes pretty darn close. There’s always a bit of a base piece to many of my outfits, and it usually comes in the form of something simple. In this instance, it’s the humble t-shirt.

While I don’t think you need to spend a lot on a cotton basic like this, if you are willing to splurge then I can’t recommend the tees from Re/Done enough. For a more affordable and sturdier alternative, I find Uniqlo is usually a safe bet. The cotton is thick, high quality, and it won’t break the bank.

the straight leg jean

If you’d told me a couple years ago that I would have a style uniform centred around a straight leg jean, I doubt I would have believed you. It’s funny how quickly our tastes can evolve and change when we let them. For me, I love the simple departure from a skinny jean (my ultimate go-to), and when balanced perfectly, it’s a very chic alternative.

Because these are a little bit wider, I find balance to be a pretty big player in outfit composition. It’s why I go for a slightly slimmer fitting tee on top, and a slightly oversized blazer. It’s that push and pull, and the contrasting silhouettes work really harmoniously together.

the oversized blazer

Again, this is one of the newer style staples in my wardrobe, and I’ve been enjoying this fresh take (for me at least) on suiting. For reference, I’m wearing the Everlane linen blazer in a size US0, which is a size down from my usual. I take notice of where the shoulder seam placement sits, as this will judge whether something is an oversized fit or just plain big.

the pointed toe shoe

The final element of this style uniform is a pointed toe shoe. I’ve talked previously about how this shoe style has the visual effect of making you appear taller, and that’s definitely my end game here. I went with a pair that have a slight block heel to add a bit of actual height, and I love that these help to make the outfit feel a little bit more dressed up, too.
